Historia
Thirty years have passed since Greta left Marchmont Hall, a grand and beautiful house nestled in the hills of rural Monmouthshire. But when she returns to the Hall for Christmas she has no recollection of her past association with it – the result of a tragic accident that has blanked out more than two decades of her life. Then, during a walk through the wintry landscape, she stumbles across a grave in the woods and the weathered inscription on the headstone tells her that a little boy is buried here.

I can’t believe I listened to the whole audiobook
Revisado: 11-19-23
The narration was so grating….at times it was like nails on a chalkboard. It’s hard to evaluate the actual story because the narration was such a distraction. It makes me realize that the narration is equally as important as the story itself.

Bad narration…

Couldn’t get past the poor narration. Overly dramatic, distracting from the story, might have been good,

Couldn’t finish…
Revisado: 08-06-22
I listened to more than half, but couldn’t finish. I’ve enjoyed other books by this author, but this one felt amateurish. The narrator ruined what was already a weak story. Some of the dialogue seemed childish. This may be the writing or could be the oddly over inflection of the narrator.

Could not finish. Not sure if it was the narrator or the story. I lost track of the characters. After 5 hours, did not feel invested enough to go back and sort them out.

Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

Good, but...
Revisado: 01-05-21
Didn’t care for the interpretation of the female voices. Instead of sounding strong and intelligent, he makes them sound brash and pushy. This really detracts from the female roles, especially Hester.

Haunting
Revisado: 01-28-20
The subject matter was hard to listen to because of the extreme cruelty to the victims. Knowing it was based on actual events added to the depth of the characters physical and emotional pain. It was well written, almost too well written, if that can be possible. Such clarity of the portrait of events and the understanding of how and why secrets are kept was haunting.

Couldn't finish because of the narration.
Revisado: 02-08-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Unsure, since I couldn't finish this book.
Would you be willing to try another book from Colleen Coble? Why or why not?
Maybe with a different narrator.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her inflections were more suited for a children's book.
What character would you cut from Butterfly Palace?
N/a

This is a story?
Revisado: 08-13-05
SB should stick to mystery writing. Romance is not her forte'. This is basically soft porn with a hint of a story. Apparently Ms Brown doesn't realize that romance stories do not have to contain so much detailed physical/sexual descriptions-at least 80% of the book falls into this category. An actual story is so much more compelling.....

An unforgetable story....the characters lingered in my mind between listenings and long after the story ended. Thankfully, there are two more to the series. The writing is beautiful, never overdone. The readers could not be better, adding to an already captivating story. Definitely a favorite!

Historia
The boxes arrive mysteriously, one by one, at Channing Manheim’s fortified compound. The threat implicit in their bizarre, disturbing contents seems to escalate with each new delivery. Manheim’s security chief, ex-cop Ethan Truman, is used to looking beneath the surface of things. But until he entered the orbit of a Hollywood icon, he had no idea just how slippery reality could be. Now this good man is all that stands in the way of an insidious killer—and forces that eclipse the most fevered fantasies of a city where dreams and nightmares are the stuff of daily life.

The Face
Revisado: 12-18-04
Wordy, descriptions went on and on....left little to the listener's imagination. Since it was choppy, it took a bit to get into the story. HOWEVER, once the characters and the story came together, I was hooked! Even the extensive descriptions were overlooked. I could hardly wait for the next opportunity to listen. Glad I stuck it out....it was memorable. I will probably listen to it again.
