Too much a political sounding board

JM has been one of my all time favorite authors for a long. Great imagination and superb stories. The Joe Ledger novels are incredible and i have enjoyed them thoroughly up until this story. Unfortunately it felt like JM was not too subtlety inserting his political leanings into enough of the story that i felt it detracted from the storyline. Id call it unnecessary clutter in and otherwise good story. JM has dine this in other books like "Ink" where i figured it was just part of the story and i ignored it, but i am very disappointed that its back and here we go again. Hopefully whatevers going on in this excellent authors life will iron itself out and we can get back to just great stories.

Who talks like this narrator?

I truly enjoy the series and the storylines. Its a great listen to be sure with only one major issue at least for me.....and that is the narrator. Its almost like this guy took his speaking lessons straight from William Shatners early years of Star Trek. Speak 8 words, pause, continue, pause, and so forth. It really screws with the flow of the story and to the authors credit the only reason I put up with it is that the stories are really good. To be honest the narrator has a good voice but he needs to stop narrating in small chunks of text the way he does. Continuing to finish the series either way.

Another great book in a good series!

If I had but one suggestion for this series it would be for the writer to consult with a military friend to help him get his terminology down.. otherwise, fun read.

Such a cool way to write a story

I tried (and completed) this short series with some trepidation as this is so different from the audible books that I have listened to prior to this. I really had no idea what to expect from this series and can only compare it to old time radio shows like "The Shadow" for instance.
I was hooked in the first few minutes. The sound effects and characters made the story come alive in my mind and its as if I could see them all. It was a really cool way to tell a modern story using alittle of the old timey tricks of yesteryear.
The characters were well developed as was the story and add to that some good narrators and some sound effects and you have the recipe for a fun ride and a fun ride it was! I think I will listen to this again.

Best Hell Diver book in the series

All of the books in this series have been excellent reads but this one was probably my favorite. We are at the point in the series where the characters are like family. You know who came before them and have watched our heroes grow up and become warriors but first things first. R.C. Bray was made for narrating this series. He really hits the mark with his delivery as well as his tone. Great Narrator! Now for the story without giving anything away which is harder than it may at first appear. Simply put the tensions between factions on the Metal Islands comes to a head and sides are taken. Turns out El Pulpo was not the worst problem that Xavier had to tackle on the Metal Islands and when he finds new threats on both land and sea the struggle for survival only increases. But a war on only one front just doesn't seem enough and our author Nicholas Sansbury Smith ups the ante when the machines come looking to finish what they started, the demise of the rest of the human race.
This book is an action packed winner from beginning to end. Great characters; Great Writing; Great Story!

Bad Narration? Or bad setup?

They story was ok. The narration was terrible. To my ear it sounded like the narrator was in a shower stall with a really poor microphone. NOW, was it the narrator at fault or the company he was reading for or both. I just don't know but the outcome was pretty poor. The story was ok which is why I put up with the narrator. I suggest you listen to the free sample prior to buying this book.

If you could sum up Code Zero in three words, what would they be?

Fast, violent and suspenseful

What other book might you compare Code Zero to and why?

This series stands on its own. The nearest I could compare would be Monster Hunters International but that is as close as I can think of off the top of my head. Both series are well written and both sets of characters are so well written that they each have their own "charisma" to them. If John Mayberry wrote weather reports I would read the damn things. He is that good!

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Ray Porter is an excellent narrator. One of my personal favorites. You know the character that is speaking immediately. This guy has great talent!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The whole book produces a series of strong reactions. The "Oh hell no!" moments to the times when Ledger says something so sarcastically funny you cannot help but laugh. It is a good read but start from Book 1!
