I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the performance was excellent. If you enjoy novels that take place in the past, combined with time travel then you’ll love this writer.

Outlander Fans: Yes, you will love this series.
Revisado: 07-10-20
Nothing can replace our Claire and Jaime, but now that I’m well into this series, I can say that the characters are well developed, and I have feelings for them. Neve develops from a competent modern day woman into a woman totally in tune with survival who follows her instincts and grows before our eyes into a full grown woman of consequence. I love it, and don’t want the series to end!

Historia
It's midnight on St. James Court, at the heart of which is a beautiful fountain sculpture of Venus rising from the sea. Kathryn Callaghan has just finished the first draft of her novel about renowned painter Élisabeth Vigée-Le Brun, a survivor of the French Revolution who was hated for her sympathetic portraits of Marie Antoinette. Although the manuscript is complete, its author remains haunted by Élisabeth's experiences, which are revealed in Sena Jeter Naslund's ingenious novel-within-a-novel interweaved with the chronicle of a day in the life of Kathryn Callaghan.

I finally started just skipping past the stream of consciousness with no point, to the parts of the story about Le Braun. Don’t waste your money.

Fun and Engaging!
Revisado: 01-03-13
Delightfully full of life, well written and performed! I loved Jackie and simultaneously felt protective of her, proud of her and empathetic with her. As her character revealed itself, the little brave waif who stands up to life with extraordinary courage and cunning captured my heart. I am now listening to the second in the series and lick my mental chops to enjoy so much fun with the coming books in the series. Written ten years ago, I am happy to have discovered it at the beginning of 2013. What a great way to start out the new year!

Wonderful Story woven with fascinating History
Revisado: 11-28-12
Pillars of the Earth is one of those rare books where the story is interesting enough to hold the listener, while at the same time revealing the politics of the time and the details of medieval architecture. The reader has a wonderful rich voice and is skilled at emoting the various characters and their emotions. The thread of good and evil that is braided through the story rings as true then, as it is does today – seeing it played out on our TV screen . The rigidness of religion and of social edicts was clarifying and thought provoking for me. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Tedious!
Revisado: 11-10-12
Although the story is interesting, and I liked the characters, this story was unbelievably poorly edited. The author repeats, and restates what he has previously said to the point of wantiing to scream! Don't waste your money.

Entertaining
Revisado: 11-10-12
I enjoyed this book, and the narrator was fabulous. Living in New Mexico I have a close association with the Mexican culture, and this book captured the deep belief in God, and the love of family that is inherent in the people. The story is not just about the family and it's trials, but about the classic struggle of political power, that destroys and unravels the way of life of the people.
