Historia
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

A Good Story?
Revisado: 01-31-25
It’s weird to say that’s it’s a good book because the horrible, despicable treatment inflicted on the family by the family’s mother Ruby and so-called counselor Jodi was brutal and demented.Bravo to Shari for her maintaining her faith in God, herself, and the true meaning of family . Take care, Shari.

Thoroughly Enjoyed Narration

I really enjoyed the narration. I now prefer the book to the movie. The movie was so sad and brutal. The book is gentle and yet strong despite being about abuse, murder, and revenge.

Historia
In November 2000, Chicago journalist and music critic Jim DeRogatis received an anonymous fax that alleged R. Kelly had a problem with “young girls”. Weeks later, DeRogatis broke the shocking story, publishing allegations that the R&B superstar and local hero had groomed girls, sexually abused them, and paid them off. DeRogatis thought his work would have an impact. Instead, Kelly’s career flourished. No one seemed to care: not the music industry, not the culture at large, not the parents of numerous other young girls. But for more than 18 years, DeRogatis stayed on the story.

Well done
Revisado: 12-22-24
I’m not a fan of hiphop or rap music but I was watching a documentary on P-Diddy accusations when R Kelly”s name was mentioned. Soulless was discussed and it was recommended. I am so glad it was because I thoroughly enjoyed the story. For one who enjoys crime dramas and documentaries listening to the work, frustrations, and perseverance that can go into bringing to light crimes and indignities is shocking. This story did all of that. I highly recommend this book regardless if you are a music lover or rap, r&b, or hip hop fan.

His congregation was racially mixed, and he was a leader in the early civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California, where he got involved in electoral politics and became a prominent Bay Area leader. But underneath the surface lurked a terrible darkness.

I really enjoyed the narration and the story. Sad in how vulnerable, gullible, and self-center behavior can come together and leave a legacy of broken hearts and dreams. I do have to say that I came to understand that The People’s Temple was more in Socialism than religion.

Historia
Queen Mary I ruled England and its territories for only five years, from 1553 to 1558, yet she has been remembered for nearly 500 years as Bloody Mary, the Catholic oppressor of a Protestant country. The truth, as usual, is more complicated than the myth. Mary grew up in a era of religious and political turmoil. Mary's life was shaped by her experience of this, and by the twisted family politics of her father, Henry VIII.

I really enjoyed the book. Ms. Weir gave several different perspectives that it gave such a well-rounded, possible history of Anne Boleyn’s final days. Plus, there are wonderful ghosts stories of Anne-spectral sightings it gave me a smile, like dessert at the end of a sumptuous meal.
