Historia
Ten Low is an ex-army medic, one of many convicts eking out a living at the universe’s edge. She’s desperate to escape her memories of the interstellar war, and the crimes she committed, but trouble seems to follow wherever she goes. One night, attempting to atone for her sins, she pulls a teenage girl - the sole survivor - from the wreck of a spaceship. But Gabriella Ortiz is no ordinary girl. The result of a military genetics program, she is a decorated army general, from the opposing side of the war to Ten.

Outstanding story and production

Think Firefly, but much darker, deeper, and richer. A fantasy western with mythic overtones. Fabulous tale in every sense of the word, and the narration really enhanced the mood of the story. I hope we hear more from Ten Lo, Gabi, Falco—and the mysterious seekers—soon.

Historia
Ignoring all past experience with the term "adventure", Millie and Daavi have signed on for one. Not quite neglecting the fact she is preparing for a big promotional event at her restaurant, which dignitaries and other very important people are likely to attend, Millie dons a rather charming straw hat and joins Daavi as he runs off to a deserted, rocky, sun-bleached isle, neighboring her own.

Charming interspecies rom-com

In the interests of transparency, Duffy Weber produces and narrates the books in my own urban fantasy series and does a fabulous job. Confession: I am not a fan of lighthearted romances, even with fantasy elements, and I would not have listened to the books in this series if I didn’t so much enjoy working with Duffy. All that aside, I was surprised at how completely I was drawn into the lives of these delightful characters. Duffy’s narration is so engaging and enthusiastic, and these books are so clearly a source of personal joy for him, that I couldn’t help looking forward to the next bit of mischief that Daavi and his crew were going to fall into. Lots of smiles, hugging, and laughter in these books. Plus a fiendish villain in this one who will make you grind your teeth and yell “Boooooo!” And yet, even he proves to be capable of unexpected acts of heroism, even if he finds his own acts of kindness to be galling. He can’t help it, though; Daavi and his friends simply bring out the best in everyone!

Homeless and struggling with alcoholism, Henry Hillman fights to preserve whatever dignity still remains with him, and in the process becomes the unlikeliest of heroes when an incident of random violence unites him with a beautiful young woman. Excellent summer read!

Cool story involving drug money, hitmen, and the life of a colorful American expatriate in the Caribbean islands. The main character is a compelling figure. I gave the story four stars rather than five because the supporting characters tend to be cliches and caricatures, and because a twist at the end was predictable and illogical. Still, it all comes together nicely, especially with the narration of Duffy Weber, who handled a wide variety of voices with amazing skill. (Note: the multi-talented Duffy narrates my own books, and he is always fabulous!)
