This was such a poignant and well-wrought story delivered in exquisite prose. I see this already as a classic of world literature. It is deeply rooted in Ireland, but for better and worse it embodies the reality of our human experience.

I liked the subtle and sensitive insights into sadness, happiness, and adult meanness and kindness toward children.

This is a beautiful story, sometimes heart-rending. The Girl with the Louding Voice dramatizes life among rich and poor in Nigeria and the impacts on an intelligent, well-meaning, but exploited girl.

I listened to the complete collection and loved everything but the last couple stories in the final book. One odd thing is that it wasn’t edited well in places. The reader can be heard speaking lines twice or even more times.

The Gathering, by Anne Enright is a masterpiece. But I would not have said that until I got to about two-thirds through the novel. From that point onward I was in awe of its genius. It weaves together its different plot strands with an incredibly deft touch and piercing insights. The narrator, Veronica, is cynical and scathing at times, but she also is full of tenderness and compassion, as well as wit, a sense of irony, and, at times, well-earned humor. Some fine modern novels have relatively weaker endings, but it is the opposite with The Gathering, whose ending cascades over us over numerous beautiful, painful, and uplifting chapters.
