Historia
Nobody comes to a brothel seeking a true story. But you will want to learn the truth about Aimée Bonnard, the best-paid woman in Galveston. Formerly known as Yvonne LaCroix, Aimée arrives on the Island in the summer of 1898. She’s looking for work in a high-end brothel, but she is also outrunning the consequences of a deadly night in New Orleans–a night in which a rival prostitute lost her life. Mistress of deception, Aimée charms and entices her way into an existence of extravagance and adventure in one of the most exclusive brothels of Galveston.

Another great story by Elena!

Loved this book! So sensual, from the descriptions of the island weather, period clothing, architecture, and FOOD. Aimée wasn’t always easy to like, but I still found myself rooting for her. I appreciate the feminist undertones including discussions about autonomy, sexual health, and general independence. Great story, highly recommend.

Historia
Through three different timelines, this paranormal historical novel weaves a story of Galveston’s past, underscoring its danger and isolation, as well as its remarkable resilience, its capacity for both nostalgia and reinvention. Full of contradictions, at once insular and open to the world, magical but stifling, stuck in the past yet determined to overcome, Galveston Island is as much a character of the novel as Suzanne, Betty, Katie, their lovers, and their confidantes.

Don’t sleep on this one!

A story of three different women in three different time periods, woven together through the magic of Galveston Island. This book was EXCELLENT! It stirs all your senses and emotions, you’ll want to book a trip to the island immediately (hint: Maceo’s muffuletta really are that good). Elena is a fantastic writer in both form and content. She develops characters that you become genuinely invested in, and will have you gasping in surprise! Susan Marlowe was a wonderful narrator, keeping the flow of multiple characters very nicely. I can’t recommend this book enough.
