A good read. I used some of the statistics and insights in my sermon on Sunday. Thanks to the authors for this project

Historia
Byzantium is too-often considered merely the "eastern rump" of the old Roman Empire, a curious and even unsettling mix of the classical and medieval. Yet it was, according to Professor Harl, "without a doubt the greatest state in Christendom through much of the Middle Ages," and well worth our attention as a way to widen our perspective on everything from the decline of imperial Rome to the rise of the Renaissance.

Excellent overview

Maybe the key to his presentation is knowing what to leave out! It’s not called “Byzantine” for nothing, and yet these lectures built a clear framework of understanding. Just enough small details set within the big picture to give a flavor of the times and people. Really well done

The Early Middle Ages-the years from A.D. 650 to 1000-were crucial to Europe's future social and political development. These 24 lectures trace a journey from Scandinavia across northern and central Europe to the farthest reaches of the Byzantine and Islamic empires, providing an exciting new look an era often simply called the "Dark Ages."

Fascinating!
Revisado: 01-20-21
Like nearly everyone, I don’t know as much about the early Middle Ages as I do about Rome or the Renaissance. This, this was very helpful in bridging the eras and especially in developing themes about commerce, plagues, religion and government, while still giving some idea of what it would have been like to live at that time. It left me with a new respect for these people—at least some of them my ancestors, I suppose!—who survived and sometimes thrived in a difficult time. The professor is easy to listen to and does a good job of moving the story along. I appreciated his humility and considerable knowledge.

Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Backed by years of research and delivered in lively, energetic prose, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception.

Very well done presentation of concepts that help explain stubborn unwillingness to forgive or admit error. I only have to look at myself to see the truth in the book!

I use this for pre-marital, as well as marital counseling. Practical and helpful. Related to their other books, but more pointed.
