Historia
Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is not good at people. She could never make small talk at a party—or even get invited to one. And she prefers the company of her books, her dog, Shadow, and the Fair Folk to other people. So when she arrives in the hardscrabble village of Hrafnsvik, Emily has no intention of befriending the gruff townsfolk.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 12-16-24
The narration of this story was excellent. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the story as I found the pacing to be quite slow. I tended to agree with Bambleby that Emily was too engrossed in scholarly description, which made my mind drift off to other things. I’m glad some people enjoyed this, but alas, it’s not my cup of tea.

Great narrator
Revisado: 04-15-24
I enjoyed this book right from the beginning. Book 1 of the series was slow for me, Book 2 a bit faster, and this one, Book 3, felt like an exhilarating race from what the start. Now I really appreciate the character and world building SJM did in the first two books and that really made this part of the story so engaging. I loved the narration of this series, too. The narrator really embodied how I would imagine Bryce in tone and attitude.

Slow until about 80% through book
Revisado: 03-15-24
The story was good and the character and world development were good, but it was hard to get into and a slow read for me. I finally started listening to it in addition to reading on my Kindle so I could get through it faster (I sped up the audio just a little to 1.2x faster than normal), and that helped. I didn’t start to truly enjoy the book until about 80% through it, though I found it compelling enough to keep at it. The last 20% had me in all the feels and wanting more, so here I go onto the next book of the series.
By the way, I already read the author’s ACOTAR series and found it really engaging, so that is what kept me going through this book. I was confident the story would get me eventually, and it did not disappoint. Other reviews also mentioned how slow it was, so I was prepared. If you like strong female characters, romantasy, and particularly Sarah J. Maas books, I urge you not to give up on this book.

Historia
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

Love these audiobooks!
Revisado: 11-21-23
I really enjoy Lily Chu’s books and I especially enjoyed how the characters from previous books appear or are mentioned in The Takedown. I also love Phillipa Soo’s performance; she really brings the characters to life with her narration and the cadence is perfect. Can’t wait for their next collaboration!

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Such an enjoyable book. I loved the characters, how well the author captures awkwardness, and how Phillipa Soo’s voice brings it all to life.
