Mostly good advice with one MAJOR flaw.
Revisado: 10-19-05
Edelman is a big time financial planner and he doesn't let you forget it. His friendly and easy to understand exhortations are all more or less on the money and well worth heeding, except for one major exception--he is heavily biased toward mutual funds and talks down privately managed or "wrap" accounts. The reasoning he gives for this is very weak. For example: the minimums are too large (says who?); they tempt investors to micromanage their stocks in the accounts (huh?); they generate too much paperwork and you'll need to buy a new filing cabinet (wrong: you can opt out easily and palm this job off to an advisor--like Mr. Edelman!) This major flaw by itself does individual investors a huge disservice and frankly, I detect a large dollop of self-serving here.
Privately managed accounts are a valuable and efficient option that is available increasingly to "smaller" investors, often for as little as $10,000 and they are the universally preferred choice for substantial investors, both individual and institutional. That being said, mutual funds do have their place in today's markets. Almost no other vehicle works as well in 401(k)s or other "systematic" investment programs for example. But they certainly should not be the only choice.
If Edelman had been more rigorously objective about all the options available to investors and not lamely promoted his personal preferences to the complete exclusion of others, this program would have gotten 5 stars. If you can tune out this one major bug, go buy it. It'll help you navigate the investment jungle better.

Complete and compact sales primer.
Revisado: 09-25-05
Having been in sales for two decades with top multi-nationals, I have learned that while sales technologies and paradigms may change and shift, the basic sales process itself remains relatively unchanged and that we forget this fact at our peril. The heart of almost every sales situation is the need to connect quickly, engage at an emotional level and ask for the order, whether it is one-on-one or with a committee. Soft Sales is one of the most businesslike guides on how to do this successfully and efficiently because while there are other great sales books that go into a lot more detail on different aspects of the process, very few are as compact, balanced and complete. This audio version is as much a refreshing saw-sharpener for the veteran as it is a no-nonsense and comprehensive primer for sales newbies. A great addition to my library of timeless sales tools.

Historia
The notion of selling carries a lot of baggage. As it has developed, sales has often become a fear-based relationship. Customers are afraid that they will be "sold" a bill of goods, or that a salesperson will talk them into something that doesn't help them succeed.

Plain talk on the sales process.
Revisado: 11-10-04
A lot of the time, the parties to a sale--buyers and sellers--play silly, pointless, self-defeating games without knowing it. Khalsa does some down-to-earth plain talking and breathes fresh air into what can be a complex process but should not be a stressful one. A valuable resource to be consulted often.
