Silence by Thomas Perry

This story is full of mystery, suspense, intrigue, and well-developed characters. For me, part of the mystery was how all of the characters fit into the plot; however, the author does finally spell it all out for those of us who are too slow to understand his subtleties. This is a fast-paced book, and it is best to keep a series of bookmarks so that you can go back and review easily; but it is a fantastically intelligent novel. Bravo!

The Hanged Man's Song

I did not like this book. First of all, it starts right out with the murder. It's not so much a whodunit, as a "why does it matter?" And that is very difficult for me to figure out, since the author will not let me delve into each character. With other authors, I have felt completely comfortable with the amount of character development in the story. The plot is also somewhat lacking. So much so that I cannot even figure out that the good guys are carrying the story until halfway through the book. In the final analysis, this book cannot qualify as either a plot-driven novel or a character-driven novel. There doesn't seem to be anything driving this novel...yet. Maybe by the time I finish it, I will figure out what it was all about. But I did not enjoy the first three quarters of the book.

Ashamed of Desires?

If you just can't justify your God-given desires, this book will explain why it is important to "follow your heart." But the real answer is a concept the church doesn't teach as much as they should: Unity with Christ. If you are truely in Christ, your desires are not your own and neither is your heart, but Christ lives and desires through you. I had problems with a couple of things Eldredge said. First, he said church is the problem, because it teaches us to be ashamed of our desires. I don't remember what else he said, but he seems to have an axe to grind. My advice to him is to go on a long camping trip with Henry Cloud, another author I really hate. I think the two of them would get along famously. And then maybe they would have something encouraging to write about, like "how to work out your philosophical differences with the companion you're stuck with for awhile."

This novel is too complicated to enjoy

I could not enjoy this book because there were too many subplots. Every time I thought I had the characters straight in my mind, the author added ten more characters that did not seem to even fit what I thought the plot actually was. I never did figure out the real plot, so I started reading a different book. Two thumbs down for The Prometheus Deception!
