Historia
Imagine. You have cancer. You’ve been blasted and wasted with chemotherapy, along with every other poison the doctors could find to kill malignant cells. Most days you’re more dead than alive. Now there is one last chance for survival. Tomorrow you will be infused with your own, treated bone marrow frozen, stored, and safe in one of California’s most prestigious hospitals. Then comes the note: “We have your marrow.... pay or die."

Just ok.

I was hoping to love it, since I'm looking for a new fiction series to accompany this year's spring cleaning. This didn't quite make it. The characters are a little flat, and the story itself doesn't ever really hook you .

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

A unexpected surprise

I don't even recall what caused me to purchase this title as I'm not familiar with the author, but I'm so glad I did. A poignant look into the richness of relationships, simple and complex. I highly recommend!

Historia
In 2004, as Pope John Paul II's reign enters its twilight, a mysterious exhibit is under construction at the Vatican Museums. A week before it is scheduled to open, its curator is murdered at a clandestine meeting on the outskirts of Rome. The same night a violent break-in rocks the home of the curator's research partner, Father Alex Andreou, a Greek Catholic priest who lives inside the Vatican with his five-year-old son.

Use of the Vatican setting was well done
Revisado: 05-04-15
Good use of east/west church history as the context of the story line. The mystery was adequate, but the strength of the story is in the setting and characters.

Historia
In Dr. Harmony Lane's single-minded obsession to cure her patients, she cuts corners and treats a desperately ill woman with an experimental viral vector provided by an unscrupulous research scientist. While he shares her impatience, he cares nothing for her humanistic sensibilities. She uses a similar vector on her patients with autoimmune diseases. While the vector has remarkable curative properties, it soon becomes clear that it has devastating and lethal side effects. The race is on to cure or at least control the vector before it kills again.

Poorly written and poorly read.

Would you try another book from Lawrence Gold and/or Daniel Polonka?
It's a little hard to distinguish which is worse in this offering - the writing or the reading. Neither are well done and when combined, result in an almost painful Audible experience. I will be avoiding this author and narrator in the future.
