Historia
Evelyn Waugh's most celebrated work is a memory drama about the intense entanglement of the narrator, Charles Ryder, with a great Anglo-Catholic family. Written during World War II, the story mourns the passing of the aristocratic world Waugh knew in his youth and vividly recalls the sensuous pleasures denied him by wartime austerities; in so doing it also provides a profound study of the conflict between the demands of religion and the desires of the flesh.

This book was not what I remembered
Revisado: 04-10-24
I read Brideshead Revisited for the first time either in late high school or early college. I remembered, or thought I remembered that I absolutely adored this book more than most any other book. For that reason, I have always planned to reread it. It has been at least 30 years since that first reading. I’ve been having a bit of a tough time and thought, listening to Brideshead Revisited could not possibly be anything other than one of the best things I would ever do. Much to my surprise, I didn’t find the book “all that great” this time around. There’s a lot more description of places and people than there is substance to the plot. By all means listen to it if you have not yet read it.

I enjoyed this for what it was… Pleasure reading, with no real value to it.
Revisado: 07-02-23
I became involved with the characters in the story, kept me interested. So I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with this story, but it is nothing more than a pleasure. Bach meant to be read on the beach, for example.

This is not complete, he fails to tell you
Revisado: 06-24-23
The final outcome of one of his patients who receives emergency surgery from him.
Sanjay Gupta also fails to do what he says is his ultimate goal in his mission and this book. Rather than touting the sacrifices and the successes of other doctors during humanitarian crisis situations, he only touts himself. Of course, what he’s done is pretty miraculous.

Historia
A prominent financier vanishes before bedtime, without his clothes. Hours later, a corpse is found in a bathtub wearing only pince-nez eyeglasses. When it’s determined that the body is not that of the financier, it’s up to amateur detective Lord Peter Wimsey to uncover the naked truth. As the part-time sleuth investigates what these men - one dead, one missing, both starkers - have in common, the pieces of two puzzles converge, and the case becomes more dangerous by the clue.

Very good mystery, had to skip over some of the old English references that I didn’t know, but definitely worth listening to

Historia
On a cold and rainy Stockholm night, nine bus riders are gunned down by an unknown assassin. The press, anxious for an explanation for the seemingly random crime, quickly dubs him a madman. But Superintendent Martin Beck of the Stockholm Homicide Squad suspects otherwise. This apparently motiveless killer has managed to target one of Beck's best detectives - and he, surely, would not have been riding that lethal bus without a reason.

I found this almost impossible to follow, and do not recommend it to anyone unless you’re Swedish
Revisado: 03-06-23
1- the names of the characters all sound alike, and they did not do a good job of explaining who was who, and making sure we understood the different characters.
2-the voices for the different characters were horrendous and too many sound alike, so it made it hard to distinguish, who was saying what when.
3- as an American you needed to either be reading the book so you see the names in print over and over again with the spelling or you need to see it as a movie to visualize the characters.
4- I stuck with this until the last 45 minutes. I will play parts over and over again, trying to discern who was who, and what was actually happening. Eventually, I got tired of putting in so much effort and just decided to let the end play. I never exactly understood who did it or why.
5-evidently, the movie starred Walter Matthau as Detective Beck. I thought this was interesting, considering that detective Martin back has the smallest part.
I absolutely do not recommend spending your time listening to this. Watch the movie instead.
Oh, and by the way, I have never ever recommended watching a movie over reading the book. That is how poor a production I feel this was,

Historia
Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola’s third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede’s practicality is the sisters’ saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book!
Revisado: 01-28-23
A new author can be tricky. I have my steadfast mystery writer favorites (I get to Kristi, James, Patterson, Michael, Connelly, etc.) and i rarely branch out. There were a series of mysteries called women’s murder mystery club, but it was not by James Patterson. The star character lives somewhere in the Caribbean I believe. Sadly, I cannot find them right now. Anyway, that is what led me to give this particular book a try. It is not what you think it will be! Turns out, I think it was well written, definitely kept my interest, and I look forward to the next book from her if there is one. Thus, I highly recommend this if you’re looking for something that is just fun.
