Historia
Using forgeries and bogus identities, Matthew B. Cox - one of the most ingenious con men in history - bilked America’s biggest banks out of millions. Despite numerous encounters with bank security, state and federal authorities, Cox narrowly, and quite luckily, avoided capture for years. Eventually, he topped the U.S. Secret Service’s most wanted list, and led the U.S. Marshals, FBI, and the Secret Service on a three-year-chase, while jet-setting around the world with his attractive female accomplices.

Awesome! Matt Cox is a fascinating human having led a roller coaster life.
Revisado: 06-10-22
I loved hearing the intimate details of Matt’s time before he was on the run and of course more so, while on the run as the Secret Service’s #1 Most Wanted. His autobiography also points out how the media and even members of the justice system tell a story so far from the truth (or in the case of representatives of the law) misconstrue, exaggerate and just plain lie to the public and the people they serve, US.
So although Matt Cox is certainly responsible for his actions as a con man, it’s interesting to note how much of a CON JOB members of the media and justice officials pull on everyday Americans all too often.
Sharks v Sharks.

Historia
Bob Odenkirk’s career is inexplicable. And yet he will try like hell to explicate it for you. Charting a “Homeric” decades-long “odyssey” from his origins in the seedy comedy clubs of Chicago to a dramatic career full of award nominations - with a side trip into the action-man world that is baffling to all who know him - it’s almost like there are many Bob Odenkirks! But there is just one and one is plenty. Featuring humorous tangents, wild characters, and Bob’s trademark unflinching drive, Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama is a classic tale told by a determined idiot.

Not really worth it. Plain. Boring. Wishing for more Breaking Bad & BCS.
Revisado: 04-03-22
If your looking for Breaking Bad and/or Better Call Saul material, there’s barely any so it really not worth it for that.
Otherwise it’s a general commentary read by Bob himself basically just a brief history of his career. Not extremely boring but doesn’t approach ‘can’t put it down’ territory.
In hindsight it wasn’t worth it. Nothing I haven’t heard in interviews. Nothing new.
Sadly, prob just part of his opportunity to bring in more money given his recent success.
Ol’ well. Def. Check out all of Stanhope’s books and Norm’s first. And RUNNING THE LIGHT.

A great listen.
Revisado: 11-27-21
This was one of the better’narco’ books I’ve listened to thus far. Lots of fascinating details from that time period only found in this book. Fun to compare notes from other media about 80s-90s Colombia and what is a recalled in this book. Easy to listen to in that, easy to follow, well crafted and narrated, lots of details but still told in an as exciting and thrilling a fashion as non-fiction can. Throughly enjoyed.

Carol Leonnig has been reporting on the Secret Service for The Washington Post for most of the last decade, bringing to light the secrets, scandals, and shortcomings that plague the agency today - from a toxic work culture to dangerously outdated equipment to the deep resentment within the ranks at key agency leaders, who put protecting the agency’s once-hallowed image before fixing its flaws. But the Secret Service wasn’t always so troubled.

Great material to pull from but executed POORLY.
Revisado: 09-22-21
This could have been a good one, but I found it overall boring and dull. Getting through it was painstaking as it lacked any excitement or general ‘pull’ to keep listening as it went on. I was disappointed. Tales from the secret service could be a fantastic listen, but this was like sitting through your most boring history class in high school. A pity.

Historia
RatSnakes are rarely, if ever, visible to the public that they move among and risk their lives to protect. In fact, thanks to their cover personas, they are often assumed to be members of the clandestine criminal world that they investigate. Real-life undercover work is a far cry from the sexy, candy-colored world seen in Hollywood movies. Only those who are strong and clever enough will get inside and survive. Vincent A. Cefalu would know. He spent 30 years as an ATF undercover operative, in assignments ranging from the Symbionese Liberation Army to Asian organized crime.

Good plot lines, but told with such bravado and sly arrogance, it’s hard to listen to.
Revisado: 09-22-21
As I said in the title, the subject matter is good, even great on the level of interning and captivating. The hard part is hearing the narration from ‘the tough guy.’ Arrogance, bravado, fake humility… whatever you want to call it, it got to be like nails in on a chalkboard. Unfortunately unenjoyable b/c undercover ATF memoirs have definite potential. Just not this one.

Historia
Misanthrope. Iconoclast. Apostate. Drunk. Many words have been used to describe Doug Stanhope, but rarely has “hopeful” been one of them. However, heading into 2016, Stanhope peered through the apocalyptic fog and saw a forecast that was more rainbows than acid rain: His first book was set for release, his new stand-up special was in the can, and he was about to film a television pilot with his friend and confidant Johnny Depp. The only thing that could stop Doug was himself, and that’s exactly what he did.

Doug’s Audiobooks are the best!!
Revisado: 08-02-21
This was my 3rd audiobook by Doug and every one was a fantastic ride full of zany, off the wall and heartfelt memories and experiences! Maybe it’s just me but I think there’s a large part, a missing hole in many of us that yearns for a ‘life lived to it’s fullest.’ Maybe it’s too late for many of us but I can at least enjoy the ride vicariously.
Thanks Doug!

Historia
Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity. While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants.

Stanhope is one of a kind. All his audiobooks are great. So far ‘Diggy Up Mother’ is #1 and this is #2. Close though and better than any of the other audiobooks I’ve heard. Tied w/ Running The Light & Burnt Chrysler’s. Entertaining from start to finish.
On the the next Stanhope trope… ba doop doop.

Historia
The Borderland Beat project is collaboration from a group of people of different backgrounds located in the US and Mexico that gather information related to the Mexican drug cartels and presents it in English through the internet, publications, and presentations. The information in this audiobook is fast-paced, with a lot of drug trafficking organization (DTO) information thrown at you at once. It's filled with hit men activity and the Mexican government's attempt to intervene, but it also contains a lot of direct, behind-the-scenes information from the author.

Ends up being like a bunch of scrambled words being run in one ear and out the other.
Revisado: 07-25-21
High hopes for the content and starts interesting enough, but quickly devolves into jibber jabber of almost seemingly unrelated passages. No through line or theme. Like a reading of random Boarderland.com blog paragraphs put together for many hours of ‘what the heck is going on the book? story?…’ I wouldn’t have bought it had I known.

Boring, Sporadic, Dull.
Revisado: 07-25-21
I’m a everything ‘Narco’ enthusiast and had high hopes for Bloodlines, but it quickly became a droning-on recap of… as if boring paperwork we’re being read verbatim into my ear. Also, it got confusing trying to keep track of who’s who and even what’s going on. Maybe reading it would be a better experience. In the end, potential squandered.
