Historia
When Dr. Gul Delani receives a call in the middle of the night from the Sindh police, she thinks they may have finally found her niece, Mahnaz—a precocious, politically conscious teenage girl who went missing three years prior. Gul has been racked with grief since Mahnaz’s disappearance, and distracts herself through work: she’s a talented curator at the Museum of Heritage and History in Karachi, one of the country’s leading experts in archaeology and ancient civilizations, a hard-won position for a woman.

I really enjoyed this book. The main character is a feminist, unconventional and an archeologist.
The mysteries are compelling, well paced and the narrator is wonderful.

Rampant, ruthless institutional racism and sexism
Revisado: 09-26-24
Loved the book! And it reminded me of how easy it is to forget how recently we have had any inkling of rights. AND how utterly rotten and entitled to destroying others/women the patriarchy encourages.
Dan Rather, you were a slime and I hope you see that now.

I'd taken a break from reading Ruth Ware books because I could o longer bare watching adult lives fall apart because of bad choices made as youths.

Historia
Edinburgh, 1869: Modern-day homicide detective Mallory Atkinson is adjusting to her new life in Victorian Scotland. Her employers know she’s not housemaid Catriona Mitchell—even though Mallory is in Catriona’s body—and Mallory is now officially an undertaker’s assistant. Dr. Duncan Gray moonlights as a medical examiner, and their latest case hits close to home. Men are dropping dead from a powerful poison, and all signs point to the grieving widows… the latest of which is Gray’s oldest sister. Poison is said to be a woman’s weapon, though Mallory has to wonder if it’s as simple as that.
