Historia
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Revisado: 11-24-23
One of my favorite novels of all time in a completely immersive new format ! Fantastic from beginning to end ! Though a bit censored for the fragile PC audience , Ellroy’s trademark , no-holds-barred prose , loaded with alliteration and racial invective, still shines through! Ellroy’s baritone narration is wonderful and unique and the full cast was incredible , with special shout-outs for William Forsythe and Maya Hawke’s performances . The sound effects were amazing and detailed and the score fit perfectly! We need more productions like this - thank you for putting this together! Hats off to James Ellroy & Jimmy Jellinek for a job well done !

Al DeMeo will never forget the day in 1992 when a coworker taunted him with a copy of the hot new book Murder Machine, chronicling the horrific criminal life of DeMeo's father, Roy, the head of the most deadly gang in organized crime. The moment sent DeMeo into a psychological tailspin: How could he have spent his life looking up to, and loving, a vicious killer?

Surprisingly Great
Revisado: 09-14-23
I’ve read a hundred mob books, so it’s something when one of them really stands out . This is one of those books. Although there is plenty of mob intrigue , this book goes beyond the simple times, dates, and names. Because the author is Roy Demeo’s own son , there is a level of closeness and detail here simply not found in other sources. This is Roy Demeo up close , so you will get all sides of him , the father , the husband, the son, the gangster, and the tortured soul. It’s a deeply personal , unsettling journey , part true crime thriller , part heartbreaking memoir , about a boy who first wants to become his father , and a man who struggles to distance himself and become his own person . Use a credit , you’ll enjoy it .

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Well Worth The Credit - A Classic
Revisado: 01-29-23
This horror story ( I should almost say fable) is a beautifully written warning about the dangers of collectivism and the loss of individual liberty, of being led down the path to destruction by a group of people who claim that they “only want what’s best for everyone.” Sound familiar ? The road to hell is truly paved with well meaning , good intentions. “Just give us your treasure , your precious belongings, your guns , and all will be well …. “ The Auctioneer …or America 2023 ?? If you like stories of the devil taking over from within , for example Young Goodman Brown (Hawthorne) or Needful Things (King) , you won’t want to miss this one!

McDowell is Great - Kimberly Wetherell Not So Much
Revisado: 01-23-23
Another Great Book my Michael McDowell , you can’t go wrong with him . Unfortunately , I didn’t care for Kimberly Wetherells narration at all . It didn’t ruin the book , McDowell is just too good , but she over reads everything and I felt at times like she was performing for a kindergarten class . She should stick to her ridiculous , presentist man shaming videos online and leave the narrating to better readers

Historia
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

Revisado: 01-10-23
Hands down the most disturbing book I’ve ever read and so well written and perfectly paced that it’s impossible to put down . This is Ketchum’s seminal work - even better than The Lost and Off-Season ( which are both EXCELLENT) and not to be missed - an example of how powerful extreme horror fiction can be

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Historia
"But come back soon", the sign said. Obviously it was a lie. The people in the grocery store just wanted to make sure he couldn't buy the spice he needed to make the recipe he'd selected for that night (recipes must be followed exactly). Obviously they wanted him to eat out...to meet the waitress, Marta, to see her horrible, unspeakable, unbearable ugliness. It was obvious to him: her maimed, twisted face was the living desire to be dead. He had to help Marta be dead.

I LOVE McDowell but…..
Revisado: 12-20-22
I love Michael McDowell . I was happy to discover him earlier this year , and I have read several of his books . He is excellent. This book however , is BY FAR the worst of them . The writing is excellent , as always , but what does good writing matter when the story itself simply goes nowhere . I applaud MM for the idea - but this story did nothing for me at all . Slow, uninteresting , pointless . Please give this author a chance if you haven’t read him before , but don’t start here . Listen to ‘The Elementals’ instead , narrated by RC Bray - that book blew my mind !!

Historia
After a bizarre and disturbing incident at the funeral of matriarch Marian Savage, the McCray and Savage families look forward to a restful and relaxing summer at Beldame, on Alabama's Gulf Coast, where three Victorian houses loom over the shimmering beach. Two of the houses are habitable, while the third is slowly and mysteriously being buried beneath an enormous dune of blindingly white sand. But though long uninhabited, the third house is not empty. Inside, something deadly lies in wait.
