Great narration
Revisado: 11-14-24
The story it self wasn’t necessarily my cup of tea, but the outstanding narration kept me listening. I’m always impressed with narrators who are able to read the parts of numerous characters in a way that doesn’t confuse the listener. This was my first time hearing a narration done by Jake Cline. I’m looking forward to the next.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Not for juveniles - contains pornographic chapters
Revisado: 11-13-23
I heard about this book when my two 12 year old nieces came to visit and told my daughters how their friends thought it was amazing, and how it would be the next book they read. So we purchased it. Work keeps me busy, so I was reading it at a slower pace than my daughters were. I always like to know what my girls are reading.
I was surprised by the language (the “F” word and others are used often, casually, and crudely from the get go) but the story was amazing.
If you’ve read Eragon, Harry Potter, Divergent and Shadow and Bone, then you’ll love the good guys, and if you thought the blue fire-breathing,undead dragon and the main villain in Game of Thrones were terrifyingly awesome, then you’ll feel the same about the bad guys here.
But when you get to chapter 30, it becomes a pornographic sex story, detailing what part of him is stretching what part of her, in extreme detail for that entire chapter.
31 reminisces about chapter 30, until they hook back up in 32 and repeat 30, with the inclusion of oral sex (again in extreme detail).
Then it gets back to the dragons, magic, and overall amazing story that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end.
The book would be awesome without chapters 30-32, and it bothers me to see it in the YA section at the book stores, where hoards of young teenagers recently gathered for the release of the second book. The book stores where I’m at actual held parties for the book’s release.
When I asked my girls about the chapters mentioned above, they told me they skipped them, but I know they had to have read some of it in order to know what needed to be skipped.
I know the author has young children, I’m just surprised she wrote a book that, story wise, her kids would love, but content wise, they can’t.

Historia
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The Earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared.

Original and captivating
Revisado: 07-21-23
This is a good story that was well written. I enjoyed the author’s ability to pull me into a world that feels immersive and real, on a ride that explores an alien invaded earth, but also takes the reader off planet (through the main character’s memories) to different worlds with unique life forms. My only downer is that the author (as with other works from her) likes to write stories where younger girls hook up with older guys who are so strong they can go for a casual jogs, completely forgetting that they’re carrying another person. I know I’m not the target audience, and other than that, I truly enjoyed this book. The addition of background music took this to the next level for me.

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.
