Historia
In Try Softer, you'll learn how to: know and set emotional and relational boundaries; make sense of the difficult experiences you've had; identify your attachment style-and how that affects your relationships today; move through emotions rather than get stuck by them; and grow in self-compassion and talk back to your inner critic. Trying softer is sacred work. And while it won't be perfect or easy, it will be worth it. Because this is what we were made for: a living, breathing, moving, feeling, connected, beautifully incarnational life.

this book is packed with wisdom and practical help
Revisado: 02-19-21
This is one of the best books I’ve read related to mental health, story work, and growth. It combines the most solid research-based information about attachment and interpersonal neurobiology with compassionate practical helps to apply these truths to your own story of brokenness and redemption. I am a Christian and a therapist as well, and I appreciated the author incorporating her own Christian faith as part of the healing journey. Faith and the Bible are not used to dismiss or for spiritual bypassing, which I greatly value. I listened on audible, read by the author, and she has a delightful speaking voice and cadence. I will, though, buy the physical book because this will be a resource for years to come.

it will revolutionize your mornings.
Revisado: 02-20-20
I loved, loved, loved this book. Kat's take on a morning routine was revolutionary in my life. This is not a "get your act together", get up super early, and do all the things kind of book. She suggests an "anchor habit" of a 3 minute morning following a GOD- PLAN- MOVE model. That three minutes, that can be done anywhere, on any crazy day, at any time, can then be expanded into a whole lot more. This has been true in my life. The concepts of Hello Mornings have changed my morning rhythms, my night rhythms, and other areas too.
The audible version was so nice to listen to. Kat has a soothing voice and great pace and it allowed me to take in the book at a great pace. I'm sure it will re-listen at some point.

But the truth is, every experience of your life has prepared you to live out your God-given purpose in this exact moment. The world is hurting and our lives are waiting, we don't have time stay stuck--we've got to make a move. You Are the Girl for the Job is not an empty catchphrase. It's the straight-up truth God has proclaimed over your life from the beginning. It's not a statement about your capacity, but rather about His.

A great book, not a great listen. read instead.
Revisado: 02-20-20
This book was solid in many ways. It's the pep talk we all need to face our fears and answer God's call. I really appreciate Jess's message that is so much more centered on God's ability than ours. She speaks to fears and gives good encouragement for naming God's call in our lives and taking the bold next step of faith.
Unfortunately, a few chapters in, her cadence, her tone turns preacher style and continues the rest of the book. Suddenly I felt much less like I was "reading" a book and felt like I was sitting in a full audience. There is an odd pause between words, a strange staccato, and sometimes she gets really fast almost out of breath. I just found myself only being able to take it in doses and wanting to get through it, rather than savor it. I would have appreciated a heartfelt reading more calmly. Let the material speak for itself, because the message is good.
I recommend this book highly if you are stuck in fear, wondering if you are the right person for your big dream or goals. It's a great book. However, if you can, READ it with your own eyes yourself. I would pass on the audible, or at least proceed with caution.

Historia
While endings are a natural part of business and life, we often experience them with a sense of hesitation, sadness, resignation, or regret. But consultant, psychologist, and bestselling author Dr. Henry Cloud sees endings differently. He argues that our personal and professional lives can only improve to the degree that we can see endings as a necessary and strategic step to something better.

the title says most of what you need to know
Revisado: 02-20-20
I didn't love this one. The concept is fairly simple... endings are necessary. That sums up the book. I found it hard to get through it because of redundancy. At the time that I listened to it, I was contemplating a big change. The book didn't necessarily help me think trough that change or add much to my thinking. I quit about 75% of the way through. I just couldn't finish.

Historia
Nothing gets our attention like an unmade decision: Should I accept the new position? Which schooling choice is best for my kids? How can I support my aging parents? When we have a decision to make and the answer isn't clear, what we want more than anything is peace, clarity, and a nudge in the right direction. If you have trouble making decisions, because of either chronic hesitation you've always lived with or a more recent onset of decision fatigue, Emily P. Freeman offers a fresh way of practicing familiar but often forgotten advice: simply do the next right thing.

Loved the book. Practical and thought provoking ideas shared in a way that is encouraging. I’ll be listening to this one again, and I’ve also started listening to the podcast. Emily has a great speaking voice.
