Historia
There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Good stuff
Revisado: 05-30-23
This book is written more in the legendary or mythic language than is the Hobbit or LOTR, but it’s very engaging. Christopher Lee is outstanding as the narrator.

Beautiful, sweet, heart-wrenching story, fantastic performances by the narrators. It’s obviously about heavy topics, so I’d recommend reading at home and in a good headspace.

Historia
Florence, the 1550s. Lucrezia, third daughter of the grand duke, is comfortable with her obscure place in the palazzo: free to wonder at its treasures, observe its clandestine workings, and to devote herself to her own artistic pursuits. But when her older sister dies on the eve of her wedding, Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage, and her father just as quick to accept on her behalf. Having barely left girlhood behind, Lucrezia must make her way in a court whose customs are opaque and where her arrival is not universally welcomed.

Beautiful writing, loved this book
Revisado: 03-01-23
I enjoyed every minute of this book. The writing is just exquisite. I liked this even more than Hamnet, although I loved that too. I learned so much about the plight of women in that day, it was fascinating and heartbreaking. I'm sad it's over, can't wait for whatever Maggi O'Farrell writes next.

Historia
How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history? I ask because it's what I have to do. I'm Zoe Boutin Perry: A colonist stranded on a deadly pioneer world. Holy icon to a race of aliens. A player (and a pawn) in a interstellar chess match to save humanity, or to see it fall. Witness to history. Friend. Daughter. Human. Seventeen years old. Everyone on Earth knows the tale I am part of. But you don't know my tale: How I did what I did—how I did what I had to do—not just to stay alive but to keep you alive, too.

A fun book from a beloved character
Revisado: 01-23-23
This is a fun book told from Zoe’s side of the story. You should probably read the book just before this one before you read this one. The voice actor does fine work, and it’s a nice tale.

Historia
Viceroy Miles Hunt had accomplished the impossible. He gambled the Republic, the RNS Freedom and the entire joint allied fleet in one glorious battle. Secretly, the Zodarks plotted revenge, a restart to hostilities once their spies had found Earth. With peace achieved, new exploration began. Opportunities at new settlements enticed. All believed the threat of annihilation was past them and with that comforting thought, Liam and his Belters headed for their new world. They would build and expand their society—giving the people of Earth an alternative to the Republic.

Great overall addition to series
Revisado: 11-26-22
This book did, indeed, calm things down a bit, moving into spy fiction for the first time. The spy parts were not as good, I feel, as the military parts, but they kept my attention well. I can certainly see the need to include them. The entire series is optimistic, and everyone gets along with each other in not so realistic ways, but that kind of what I appreciate about the series: it’s unabashed embracing of positivity and genial respect. So this book is another great addition to the series as a whole.

I’m a fan of Juliet Marillier, and this little book was one of my favorites. It’s a different look at a classic story and a fun twist in perspective. My husband and I listened to the whole thing on a long car ride and we’re thoroughly entertained!

Enjoyed the book, but not the ending
Revisado: 04-23-20
I enjoyed the book, for the most part. Certainly it got a bit tedious, it seemed like she was drawing out the story, but for the most part I didn't mind that. Caroline Lee's narration is spot on. My problem with the book is the ending. I just didn't buy it...at all. Not realistic and too coincidental. That was disappointing, but I did enjoy 80% of the book.

Fun and interesting story
Revisado: 01-04-19
This kept my attention, and the team narration worked quite well. The story is unique, and a fun concept that had enough details, but still moved along nicely.

Historia
Art critic Jeremy Grove is found dead, his face frozen in a mask of terror. His body temperature is grotesquely high; he is discovered in a room barricaded from the inside; the smell of brimstone is everywhere... and the unmistakable imprint of a claw is burned into the wall. As more bodies are discovered - their only connection the bizarre but identical manner of death - the world begins to wonder if the Devil has, in fact, come to collect his due.

Fun read.
Revisado: 08-06-17
This was a fun detective novel. It was well read by Brick, who never seemed to get in the way. Lots of clues and red herrings made it fun to try and determine the murderer. There was a lot of occult elements, too, that added even more interest. I just wish that the protagonist, D'Aggosta, would have had more to do in perilous situations rather than watch Pendergast work magic all the time.
Rated R for many F-Bombs throughout.
