Historia
The end of man was not signaled by marauding gangs or explosions but with silence. People simply grew older knowing a younger generation would not be there to replace them. The final two residents in the neighborhood of Camelot, an old man and his invalid brother, are trapped in their house by forests full of cats and dogs battling with the bears and wolves to eat anything they can find. As the man struggles to survive, he recounts all the ways society changed as the human population continued to shrink.

So Repetative, Redundant, the Same Over and Over
Revisado: 12-14-22
I guess the narrator did the best he could with the words he was given. That is the best I can say about this audiobook. The protagonist is old and getting feeble, his brother sits there not moving, and animals are encroaching. There, summed up this short story padded out to almost 7hrs. The premise was interesting, but the writing is not good enough for me to sit through more of this series.

But that anonymity comes at a cost: Cosima is unable to pursue the cutting-edge ...

Tatiana's voices captivate you into the story
Revisado: 06-23-21
The story keeps building in intensity, weaving and reveling its strands. Excellent story, but what really makes it very hard to stop listening is Tatiana's flawless narration. I've extended bike rides, needing to hear more, miles having gone past unnoticed as I've pedaled away totally engrossed.
Only minor quibbles are the too loud promos and the sound design. Sounds should be informative and unobtrusive, but hearing a character's phone ringtone or vibration yank you right out of the story trying to tell if it is your own (same thing applies to sirens)! The narration explicitly states "x's cell phone rang" making the jarring sound unnecessary. Every bit of immersion this story needs is amply supplied by Tatiana!
This will be a repeat listen while eagerly awaiting season 2.

Historia
Between April and July 1944, Truman Smith flew 35 bombing missions over France and Germany. He was only 20 years old. Although barely adults, Smith and his peers worried about cramming a lifetime's worth of experience into every free night, each knowing he probably would not survive the next bombing mission. Written with blunt honesty, wry humor, and insight, The Wrong Stuff is Smith's gripping memoir of that time.

Well Written War Memoir
Revisado: 09-16-20
The memoirs I've read/listened to are very seldom this well written. Engaging, self-deprecating, unexpected humor throughout. What really caught my ear were the little things, that nobody else really discusses, that got him and his crew through the war. Like why peeing in the bomb bay was so much better than risking using the relief tube.

Samantha is a professional seductress and con artist with a heart of gold. If she talked about her work, she’d tell you she only pilfers organs for medical research and that she only takes one kidney, and she only steals those kidneys from dishonest people. It’s hell on her social life. Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

Supply your own laugh track
Revisado: 09-02-20
Imagine Romancing the Stone recast with the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel accompanied by His Girl Friday and Lorelai Gilmore. If you need a laugh track to tell you when something is funny this audiobook (radio play?) isn't for you. If, like me, you despise laugh tracks and you love fast paced witty banter then it is for you. The thing is you actually have to be attentive or you'll miss a lot of humor.
Performance is top notch and for once the sound editor didn't go overboard with music and effects that so often muddy the voice acting. Story... well something had to give. The plot suffices to support the characters and dialogue. It is a short story though so I didn't deduct much for that.
I listened to this riding my bike over two days (open ear bone conduction, so don't judge). There are whole sections of the trail I couldn't remember doing and it motivated me to ride again the next day to finish the book. I will be giving this another listen.

Let’s be honest: most of us think about sex a lot, and we have plenty of unanswered questions: What’s the best way to talk to my partner about what I want? How do I figure out my sexuality? How do I have sex safely? What does an orgasm actually feel like? Laci Green - a sex educator and YouTuber who’s been hailed by Time magazine as the millennial Dr. Ruth - has built a platform of millions of followers by answering sex-related questions frankly, nonjudgmentally, and hilariously.

Sex Education as It Should Be
Revisado: 10-16-18
This book is not the Kuma Satra or the Joy of Sex. What Sex Plus is, should be the standard for sex education. Well written in an easy going, relatable style. I particularly liked the chapters on consent and identity. Self identifying as belonging to the gray hair crowd I still learned a lot and it demanded adjustments to my base thinking. I particularly wish, however, that many copies of Sex Plus had been prominently displayed on the non-fiction end cap at my catholic high school's library. Oh, the mental stress that could have been alleviated for so many.
Why a book in the internet age? Because it is a wonderful single stop of factual information without the endless keyword search porn results, hijack attempts into religious shaming, and the ubiquity of wrong. Read or listen to Sex Plus, the only demands it makes of you are positive for yourself and more importantly others.

Dr. Greta Helsing has inherited the family's highly specialized and highly peculiar medical practice. She treats the undead for a host of ills - vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights, and entropy in mummies. It's a quiet, supernatural-adjacent life until a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human and undead Londoners alike. As terror takes hold of the city, Greta must use her unusual skills to stop the cult if she hopes to save her practice - and her life.

Premise is Strong with This One
Revisado: 09-29-18
An interesting introduction to Dr. Greta Helsing and her companions. I enjoyed the story, not so much the narration. It was difficult to differentiate the male characters. Most annoying, however, was you would suddenly be in a different location, time or character without any auditory cues whatsoever. A longer pause, change of inflection, or something please. I did find the narrator's voice does suit Dr. Helsing very well capturing her tone and emotion.

Well That Aged Out Fast
Revisado: 08-07-18
I really like Neal Stephenson and this premise seemed good. I, however, listened to this 1994 copyright book in 2018 and it hasn't aged well. Technology and progress towards our dystopian future, unfortunately, outpaced Stephenson and George's vision. As always Oliver Wyman's narration draws you in, makes characters easily discernable, and is just an easy to listen to voice.

Story Telling Lags a Great Vision
Revisado: 11-13-17
I really enjoyed the author's vision of this near future world. The story, while good, didn't do that vision justice. Narration performance was very good and really drew you into the story. One quibble 'corps' is a plural abbreviation of corporations and in this context and should be pronounced with a p. Annoyed me every time I heard 'kor'.
I'm eager to listen to more stories set in the same world.

Glossy Venier of Science
Revisado: 08-09-10
Although there are are some interesting scientific studies presented at the beginning, most of the book is factoids used to prop-up assertions of questionable science validity. Sure a few conditionals are thrown in, but never given the weight of the original assertion. Seldom is he drawing from his own work. Any work that purports to be science based yet perpetuates the misconception of individuals evolving or species acting on their own to evolve is extremely questionable. It's much easier to compose statements about evolution in that way but wrong to take the easy way out and ignore the species basis of evolution.
The narration is no Audie contender
