Historia
After facing a flamethrowing Little League hurler, 13-year-old “Stosh” Stoshack time-travels back to 1942 to join Satchel on an unforgettable road trip to the Negro League World Series. With nobody out and the series on the line, Stosh watches as Old Satch intentionally walks three straight batters, waves all but his catcher off the field, and then challenges the best hitter in baseball.

Great story!

I listened to this with my boys, and it's one of their favorites in this series. Gutman's storyline repeats through these books, but we learned about baseball history and wanted the story to go on when it was done.

Historia
Mike Matheny was just 41, without professional managerial experience and looking for a next step after a successful career as a Major League catcher, when he succeeded the legendary Tony La Russa as manager of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012. While Matheny has enjoyed immediate success, leading the Cards to the postseason three times in his first three years, people have noticed something else about his life, something not measured in day-to-day results.

Great lesson on leadership and baseball.

I wish I had read this when my boys first got started playing baseball. There's solid, practical wisdom here. I'd highly recommend it to any baseball parents. I listened to it together with my boys and it was great to talk together about several of the topics that came up.
