Historia
Recent statistics suggest that nearly two-thirds of Americans regret not planning properly for retirement. We tend to underestimate the key factors of retirement planning: our total lifespan; the probable length of our retirement; and, perhaps most significant, how much money we’ll need to fund those years in retirement. In fact, retirement planning can feel so overwhelming that many of us put off thinking about it at all until it’s too late to make the necessary changes.

Historia
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian-American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

Dragging through grief
Revisado: 12-22-24
I appreciated how honest and real Michelle was describing her journey through the loss of her mother. Perhaps the disconnect for me was when l think of a memoir… l think it’s a story about one’s whole life. This one felt off balanced- like one MAJOR life event is her life. I kept wondering about her husband, her father, her friends, her father’s side of her family, her in laws… how they were influential. I’ve lost a parent at a young age and yes it rocks our world. I did enjoy Michelle’s narration & the last 40 minutes of the book.

It was to the point… unfortunately the narrators voice was distracting to me. However, some solid nuggets of advice.

It was just ok
Revisado: 08-28-24
The lack of input from all of the other characters in the narration. The ending was just thrown in there & done- Perhaps the author just got tired of her own story. So she wanted to hurry up & finish.

Thought provoking

I really appreciated the epilogue as it added to the context of the story. It was thought provoking and yet it was not the best written story. However it was a good book & worth checking out.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

I listened
Revisado: 07-30-24
What l enjoyed about this book was it felt like she was being genuine, real, vulnerable with the sharing of her story.
What l found troubling was how she blamed a politician for some of her treatment in a legal system he did not design. When she admittedly broke the law on a multiple occasions.
I am empathic to the situation she found herself on as a result of her actions. It makes me question how other events may have been skewed to fit an agenda. Beyond bringing awareness to how people deal with autoimmune diseases.

Predictable
Revisado: 01-10-24
This story was so hard to listen to as it was predictable to a fault. It was written as a cheesy romance with a twist of two stories unfolding at once. It isn’t worth the time.
