Historia
Richard Sharpe returns to the battlefields of the Iberian Peninsula, where he and his men bravely fight the French invasion into Portugal in 1809. The world-renowned Sharpe series is now available with gorgeous packaging for a new generation of readers and listeners. A few years after Richard Sharpe’s heroic exploits on the battlefields of Trafalgar, Sharpe finds himself once again in Portugal, fighting the savage armies of Napoleon Bonaparte, as they try to bring the whole of the Iberian Peninsula under their control.

Can’t Stand Reader Farley
Revisado: 03-13-23
The story is fine. Not great but it’s ok. I can NOT stand the voices of Rupert Farley. His voice for Sharpe is exceedingly repulsive. It almost more than I can take. It IS more than I can take. I stop and listen to a Sharpe story read by Frederick Davidson to calm down. I am sad Davidson died and crushed by his loss of his voice in his remaining months. Hey, Audible, is Farley the best you can scrape up! Whether Farley is reading characters the reader is to like or despise, the voices he picks are unlikeable. The reader ends up not liking to listen to any character. Patrick Harper is the only character the reader semi enjoys hearing talk. I don’t like Wellington’s voice but I do when Davidson narrates. And when Farley has Sharpe call Wellington ‘ the Duke’ , you’d swear a bootlegger from the probation 1920s is speaking. Painfully horrible. At least he’s consistent. The worst reader ever. Test him against Frederick Davidson. Pick a Sharpe book. Pick ANY story read by Davidson. Pure joy. Try PG Wodehouse if you love to laugh. Jeeves and especially Blandings. I’ve been listening to Davidson since Blackstone days - on tapes - since 1990. Late 80’s. No more Farley! I beg you.

Wish Frederick Davidson was the reader
Revisado: 03-05-23
I put this off as long as I can. I have 2 more of RF’s to suffer through. The kicker is I had to PAY to hear Sharpe’s story read by Farley. I can not abide the voice Farley uses for our hero. It’s a cliche Hollywood Central Casting 1920 gangster voice. Frederick Davidson voices for the Sharpe series are magnificent. I miss Davidson. (1943 - 2005) M J.

Historia
Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as "the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Not a fan of the reader, Rupert Farley. I don’t care for his choice of voices. No, not at all. It’s a good story. I just can’t abide the key voices and I frankly can’t stand his voice for Richard Sharpe. MJ

Sharpe's mission had seemed simple: capture a small unguarded French coastal fort, cripple Napoleon's supply lines, and retreat across the sea. But behind the lines, Sharpe's old enemy, Pierre Ducos, awaits Sharpe's arrival with a battalion of French soldiers and a vicious commanding general who keeps the scalps of his dead enemies as trophies.

"Stickeen.... pushed his head past my shoulders, looked down and across, then looked me in the face and began to mutter and whine; saying as plainly as if speaking with words, "Surely, you are not going into that awful place. "As the darkness of a freezing night approaches, an experienced American naturalist and a dog are trapped on an Alaskan Glacier. This is a true story, written by one of the United States' most famous naturalists and explorers.

Stickeen - the story of John Muir and a dog
Revisado: 08-25-22
Whom so ever chose this weak 'READER' , Andre Stojka, with his frail, sing-song, unmanly pathetic wormy little voice to bring this wonderful dog story and Muir to life, should be fired. Allow John Lee (White Fang) to redo Stickeen. This experience took John Muir 20 years to finally be able to write about his hair-raising adventure he had on a glacier with this brave and loyal little dog. Stickeen was the dog of Rev. Samuel Hall Young's wife who was my great-grandmother's sister. Both my great-grandmother and my grandmother, the niece of Hall Young, spent many years in Alaska in the 1880s. My great-grandmother spent four years there in on a civil service teaching assignment. 20 years later, my grandmother spent two years in the late 1890s also teaching.
This is a great dog story - maybe the first great American dog story and your reader, but Andre Stojka, slaughtered it.
