Historia
When Carina Murphy is accused of a crime she didn’t commit, a fresh start in a new town is her only option. Unfortunately, Cradle Mountain may not be the safe haven she’d thought. The son of her new patient may be tall, dark, and handsome...but he also knows all about her past. Keeping her job should be the hardest part. Keeping her heart safe seems to be much harder.

Surprising!
Revisado: 12-24-24
Like all the books in this series, this was very good. It will be on my reread list. Flynn and his teammates were kidnapped and forced to undergo DNA enhancement, making them next-level soldiers. They now own a security company headquartered in Flynn’s hometown so he can oversee his mother’s care for dementia. When Carina comes to serve as his mom’s nurse, Flynn and Carina immediately feel the sparks flying. There are a lot of twists as the two navigate persistent exes, neighborhood thugs, a deadly mercenary, and even a biker gang. Along the way Flynn betrays Carina and their future is suddenly tanked. The author deftly weaves a riveting tale that will have you rooting for the couple even as you want to smack… any number of people, including Flynn. Recommended reading!

Just a lovely book!
Revisado: 04-16-23
Ryan is divorced with two young teens and an ex-wife who is a constant thorn. He wants to find someone but thinks his life is too busy. Then he realizes the new doctor in town, Judith, is the sister of his high school best friend. There was attraction then, but it couldn’t go anywhere; you’ll find out why. Their romance has ups and downs, and a scary series of events happen, including murder as well as attempted murder of Judith. It’s an engaging, lovely read with a strong storyline w/o heavy angst. I highly recommend!

Life is far too short.

Different but just as good!
Revisado: 12-06-22
Ace and his SEAL team slip into a war-torn country to rescue a well-connected Peace Corps worker. They end up rescuing a friend of the worker, Piper, and three young orphans she had saved. Piper sees the horrible situation the girls would be in if they were left behind, so she and Ace marry to facilitate the adoption There is clear chemistry before they marry and they both intend the marriage to last. So a lot of the romance is after they marry. Not a lot of tension in the romance, but it’s sweet and spicy and enjoyable to see the couple build their bond. There are some tense twists and turns that keep things going. Recommended. It will definitely be on my reread shelf.

Sarah Dove is no ordinary bookworm. To her, books live, breathe, and sometimes even speak. As the librarian in her quaint Southern town of Dove Pond, her gift helps place every book in the hands of the perfect reader. Recently, however, the books have been whispering about something out of the ordinary: the arrival of a displaced city girl named Grace Wheeler. If the books are right, Grace could be the savior Dove Pond desperately needs.

A sweet, engaging story
Revisado: 01-01-20
Karen Hawkins brings her signature humor and story-weaving talents to this sweet tale of a town in crisis. I love the underlying premise: Books know who needs them, and let librarian Sarah know so she can get them where they need to go. There really isn’t a villain, just assorted crises they work through. I look forward to returning to Dove Pond as this series continues. Definitely worth a credit, because I know I will be rereading this more than once.

Historia
Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex's sister and her family. It's a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has been there only a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.

The latest outing of Amos Decker hits all the buttons. It’s a tangled tale that reminds me of my own Appalachian hometown, which has many similar problems. Well worth a credit. The narration is likewise very well done by both voice actors.

On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

This is a complex story well told. The premise - testing new drugs on the military - is all too plausible. The lead character, Jack Reece, is relatable and likable even as he moves from deep heartbreak to extreme violence. An excellent debut. I hope to see Reece again.

Historia
Seattle gallery owner Virginia Troy has spent years battling the demons that stem from her childhood time in a cult and the night a fire burned through the compound, killing her mother. And now one of her artists has taken her own life, but not before sending Virginia a last picture: a painting that makes Virginia doubt everything about the so-called suicide - and her own past. Like Virginia, PI Cabot Sutter was one of the children in the cult who survived that fire - and only he can help her now.

Another fine story
Revisado: 01-10-18
This book is fast paced, intriguing, and definitely worth my money. I have been a fan of Krentz for a long time, in all her genres. This book does not disappoint. Cabot and Victoria were both rescued from a cult when they were children when the cult leader set a fire that killed their mothers and others. Now as adults, they meet to investigate whether one of the last old survivors of the erstwhile cult was murdered or committed suicide. I definitely didn’t see some of the twists coming. This is the second of a series of connected books, and the last chapter sets up the next one, but not in an annoying way. I am looking forward to the next book, and I know I will reread the whole series again in the future.

Historia
Since the days of conquistador Hernán Cortés, rumors have circulated about a lost city of immense wealth hidden somewhere in the Honduran interior, called the White City or the Lost City of the Monkey God. Indigenous tribes speak of ancestors who fled there to escape the Spanish invaders, and they warn that anyone who enters this sacred city will fall ill and die.

Well worth the time
Revisado: 01-28-17
This book is a rich mix of history, adventure, anthropology, and epidemiology. It tells the story of a group of mostly Americans on a harrowing trip to be the first non-Hondurans to see the Lost City of the Monkey God, buried deep in a thick and dangerous rainforest. I enjoyed all the side paths Preston took, but be aware the story of the trip is maybe half the book. I will listen to it again, I know. The only drawback is the reader. He is clear with good expression, but always sounds a little hushed like he doesn't want to disturb someone in the next room.

The dead talk - to the right listener. They can tell us all about themselves: where they came from, how they lived, how they died, and, of course, who killed them. Forensic scientists can unlock the mysteries of the past and help serve justice using the messages left by a corpse, a crime scene, or the faintest of human traces.
