Amazing and surprisingly gratifying
Revisado: 09-30-24
I wish I would’ve read this book in my early twenties. I’m in my late twenties so it’s not so bad but the theme of “it’s never too late” was what I really needed to hear. I haven’t read a book that touches on generational immigrant trama as well as this book did. The book is never heavy but there was a moment that I was crying at my desk at work because it was like she was speaking to me. Maybe if you aren’t a daughter of immigrants you might not get as impacted but it was moving and explained the emotional burdens that come with that position perfectly. I think anyone could appreciate what they both went through and love their personalities. I appreciate that the ML was real and not overly molded to fit the female gaze. The romance was believable and comforting without taking away from the growth of both characters.

She’s further horrified when she nearly runs a car off the road that belongs to Alistair Lennox, who just happens to be the illegitimate son of the British king.

Kylie Scott will forever be my queen 🤍
Revisado: 04-05-24
She seriously never misses. Lovable characters, good humor and an easy love story. Even though it was a one week time span, the romance was more of a slow burn than the insta-love I expected. The anticipation was killer and the pacing was done well. I appreciated that the idea of it all happening in a week was believable and probable. I love his mom and thought the ending was clever. This is one of my new favorites now. I love her famous guy meets normal girl arcs. I honestly will never truly know which one is my actual favorite. The only thing I hate about reading her books is how I always get through them right away and have to reread them until the next one comes out. I tried waiting with this one and it still feels like I read it too soon.

NOT A PREQUEL and the perfect end to a great series
Revisado: 01-31-24
I loved the series and will probably reread it. This book was a great way to wrap up the storyline for the series too. I was worried that this book wouldn’t live up to the hype but it definitely did. I love stories with a long time coming HEA because they feel like everything comes full circle. I appreciate the representation for Hispanics because we don’t always get that in sports romance. All in all I have nothing but love for these characters and how well Kandi Steiner writes romance. I love that she hits heavy topics but writes about people healing at the same time as they find love. 10/10 will read again.
About this not being a prequel: Read this book last if you want to know all the other characters and if you don’t want to know everyone’s final HEAs yet. I was honestly pretty upset when I realized that this wasn’t a prequel. At that point I hadn’t bought the other books and was already pretty far in so I finished it. I’m going to reread it now that I finished the other books because I didn’t catch on to some of the references and insights on everyone else. Yes, you can read it as a standalone but if you’re like me and you like to read series’ in order then read this last.

Should’ve read this book sooner
Revisado: 11-17-23
I’ve been putting off reading this series for over a year now. I’ve reread the Rock Kiss series like 3 times so I was worried this series wouldn’t be as good. Don’t know what I was worried about. The story was sweet and I loved the main characters. I love the younger guy falls for her first trope. The only thing that really annoyed me was how she says Jacqueline. People complained about the accent but they’re not the worst ever. I wouldn’t have crazy expectations.

Love finds you when you least expect it. That's what my nan always said. Love? I wasn't looking for it, so how will I know when I've found it? I'm not romantic like she was—I'm realistic and practical. Quick with my wits and hilarious when I'm in the mood, it'll take more than a handsome face to win my affection. Speaking of handsome faces—Elias Cohen is nothing special (no offense); smug, arrogant. Too flirtatious for his own good. He won't charm me with that crooked smile and dimple in his chin.

Best “Bet” Romance
Revisado: 07-03-23
I loved Molly and Eli. They’re funny and down to earth characters. They’re dialogue and thought processes are very real. I’ve read tons of “bet” romances that don’t make sense bc the bet is really not that big of a deal. The characters were very realistic about that aspect and didn’t pretend like there was a super crazy necessity to do things for the sake of a bet. It does it’s purpose of getting them together and from then on they just grow closer and they’re relationship becomes really sweet. I could see a couple of the scenes as movie worthy.
For any Sara Ney fans, Molly is the teenager neighbor from Hard Love (book 3 in the Trophy Boyfriends series) and Trip Wallace shows up in this book a couple times. It’s cute and funny to see a little extended epilogue for him and how his relationship is with Molly as adults. I’ve been putting off this series for a while since I’ve read all of Sara Ney’s books except these. It might sound weird but I try to ration out her books so I still have some to read between her publications. She seriously never misses. I love how the protagonists have very different personalities in each book and the dilemmas are serious but not too heavy.

If I had to pick a bride of convenience, my first choice would not be Peach Maloney. My 50th choice would not be Peach. Top spot on my list of occupational hazards? Yes. Royal pain in the crumpets? Yes. A bride of convenience? No. But I've unexpectedly gone from royal bodyguard to monarch, having inherited a crown that was stolen from my family long before my birth. The kicker? In order to take the throne, I must find a wife. Have I mentioned Peach would not have been my 100th choice? But I've no other options, and she needs a favor that my new position can fulfill quite nicely.

Cute but mostly corny
Revisado: 04-18-23
Definitely a background noise type of book. The story itself was cute and I did like the characters as people but just hated hearing them talk and think. I like to listen to this kind of book at work since it’s not too complicated but this one had zero complexity. The whole thing was unrealistic. No one talks like this, no one thinks “knob” that often, laws don’t work this way, and the “for the love of Thor” was so unnecessary. Definitely not Pippa Grant’s best at all. I would’ve DNFed this one but I hate skipping books in a series. The rest of the series is really great for the most part. I do love Pippa just not this book’s dialogue. Also, Stephen Dexter has done better and has sounded less like a cartoon in other books. His accent was horrible for this. That being said there was no saving the “quirky” parts of the dialogue thrown in this.

Exceeded all my expectations 💌
Revisado: 02-20-23
I’ve been avoiding this book for years now but I’m so glad I caved. I love Penelope Douglas. Honestly I wanted to avoid the whole “he’s twice her age dynamic” but I never felt grimy like I have with other age gap books. I think it helped that they don’t have an added level of extreme economic imbalance. She did a great job at showing how perfect they are as a couple. They’re individual personalities are exactly what the other needs and loves. You forget the taboo part of the relationship when they’re in each other’s orbit.
I do have one bone to pick. At the end of the story she wrote about Jordan’s friend and a new guy and you can kind of tell she thought about writing them in to lead to another book. I got excited and started looking for the book. They’re the perfect “90s couple” and I want to know how they meet and about the “sisters”. I respect the author if she doesn’t want to write that story but I honestly dream she will one day.

After a brush with death, I realize it’s time to make changes in my life. Big changes. First, my job. I love being a journalist, but I hate my megawatt magnate boss, West Maxwell. When he demands I rewrite an article on short notice, I turn the tables on him with a scathing new column and quit in a blaze of glory. But West isn’t about to let me go that easily, the jerk. He offers me an unexpected new position: mentor to his rebellious teenage niece. For some reason, I agree—I like helping people, but I’m also admittedly curious to glimpse the man behind the mogul.

Female narrator got paid and that’s all she cared about
Revisado: 10-08-22
I listen to books while I’m at work or just generally multitasking. Usually I don’t notice bad narration since I also put it 1.7 speed. I put an even higher speed if the smutty parts are super long or a boring part drags. I didn’t have to skip any part of this one. I did, however, have to go back a couple times because the female narrator never made it clear when the man was talking. He’s supposed to be a suave and masculine guy. I had pause it to imagine how his words would really sound because the narrator used the same voice she did for female characters. It was a bit funny how she realized our girl was from the south midway into the book. She changed her accent for like 2 chapters and then forgot about the accent. I’ve heard this narrator before under a different name I think because she sounds familiar. She’s no Andi Arndt for sure but she did a better job with other books. It’s like she felt she didn’t get paid enough to give a better performance. Like when you were a kid and someone paid you $20 to clean the lawn so you zoomed through it as fast as possible. This had that feeling of “I don’t care about this job. I just need to get paid.”
The writer did a great job. It was nice story and stayed light for this who don’t want to listen to someone’s super deep journey. People complained about how the story could’ve had more smut. For me, it was nice for to be at work and not listen to a sex fest while I’m typing. I’m not saying it’s a super romantic story bc it builds a bit unrealistically. I was just looking for a cute story that would pass the time and that was what was delivered. It’s the perfect book to listen to but I wish they would redo the female narration part. More than anything she made things not add up and not make sense. She also didn’t think about what the main male character was like while impersonating him. If you’re going to do that, don’t do it with a main character. The female narrator did not have the author’s best interest at heart.

Funny and incredibly insightful
Revisado: 08-19-22
This was one of the best books I’ve read this year. It’s totally different in that it really digs into the perspective of a character in a situation that many authors in this genre don’t want to touch with a ten foot poll. She’s a wife who found out her husband has been cheating on her with men they’re whole marriage. She’s basically a beard and is destroyed when she finds out. The character growth had very insightful progression and the romance was there but didn’t get in the way of her growth. You really get a perspective on what it might be like to go through getting out of a marriage where it’s not as cut and dry as one might assume. Everything came full circle a bit quickly at the end but it made sense without feeling like it was unnatural. I especially appreciate how she made something clear to the reader that might think of her being upset about him coming out as homophonic. It’s important to remember that her pain came out more from the fact that no matter what gender his paramours were, it will hurt if you find out your spouse was never committed to you. It was a really well written her breakdown since it was funny, real and ridiculous.

Military/College Romance I didn't know I needed
Revisado: 07-31-22
I thought I've read every type of book but this topic really surprised me. I didn’t read the description beforehand and I’m glad bc this isn’t something I would’ve thought would be good. I liked the characters and the story line but the relationships are what’s my favorite. Their really well written and a bit different in a subtle way. I appreciated that she didn’t intervene in her sisters life like older siblings usually have a habit of doing. I loved that her thoughts developed maturely and didn’t get annoyed by the recurring themes.
