A Story About the Loss of A Child
Revisado: 04-23-25
This story wasn't the typical frightening tale. It's a story about the grief of losing a child. A woman married to an alcohol mourns the loss of her child and anger at the husband. She learns what really happened and wants to join him. It didn't have an ending, just stopped. This doesn't really belong in the shivers collection. Had I known I would've skipped this one.

Scattered and Confusing Story
Revisado: 04-21-25
This short story was about a woman who suddenly develops pychic powers and a number of deaths happen at her workplace. Her son is dropped off and causes her distress. This was a confusing and scattered story. It seemed liked a number of deaths were happening in her office and people were trying to figure out what was going on. Then her son is dropped off and the story focuses on hiding him from her superiors. The sections with the annoying kid too way too much time and detracted from the story. This is my least favorite so far. Narration was good.

Went Downhill Fast
Revisado: 04-21-25
This one didn't thrill me as well. It started out good. A young man and his sickly mother weather money troubles. He finds an unusual solution that brings them good fortune. He has his doubts along the way. The twist at the end wasn't as clear as it should've been and didn't make much sense. Narration on the audiobook was rather rote and dull.

Price of Paradise
Revisado: 04-21-25
This was a short story, an Amazon Original about about a much sought after island vacation with a dark secret. What happens is noted in the description. Story is a good one with excellent, heartfelt narration. I knew what was going to happen, but it was still a good short listen. A quote from one of my favorite shows applies-Stargate SG1, The Nox noted that the very young do not always do as they are told. Paradise isn't all it is cracked up to be.

Unpleasant and Dull Story
Revisado: 04-17-25
I enjoyed the previous short stories from this author, but this one fell flat. The lead character had too much drama that detracted from the story and the tree wasn't that frightening. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was so dull and boring that this story just did not work well.
If you want a really good story about an awful tree, try Sightings: Polynesian Rakau Tira by J.F. Rodo Rome. Far more frightening than this tree could ever be. It's an entire series of scary goodness few have heard of.

Former FBI Agent's Meddling
Revisado: 04-02-25
This is a great audio drama about a disgraced FBI agent who is drawn into a conspiracy about a murder overheard on her train commute. The lead, Amy lost her job at the FBI, has a brazen personality and can't help barging in. She has an unhappy marriage, a lover and drama, all of which come into play. Amy overhears a plot to kill a man, she can't resist snooping. The drama that ensues is more than she bargained for and is thrilling to follow along discovering clues. Lizzy Caplan is perfect as Amy and the rest of the cast supports her brilliantly. Plenty of twists and turns and a satisfying conclusion. I love these audio dramas James Patterson writes for Audible. The Coldest Case series is a favorite.

Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Dragon War Stories
Revisado: 04-02-25
This is drama in the style of WWZ about Dragons who attacked civilizations around the world. It is separated into sections and is tied together by a woman collecting stories of what happened. It is an interesting concept that partially works. The first part about the dragon attacks is the best of the drama. It then changes into rider stories. It is very uneven and jumps around. The narrator is rather unlikeable and she travels with one kid, while looking for another but that isn't clearly stated. Cast and production are great but the uneven storyline and plot holes keep this from being what it could have been. We never learn why the dragons came, what the classes are or the full details of what happened to humanity. I lost interest a few times before I finally finished. I had just finished a much better dragon story, The Great Zoo of China, Jurassic Park with dragons and that was an excellent book that fully described the why, what, who and how.

OK, twelve times. It should only take a few hours. Until he wakes up in jail. And he’s not alone. His fellow prisoners: a cadre of alien soldiers. His prison: an ethereal boundary that will imprison their spirits until their bodies die. His jailers can’t even see him. Intriguing Story with a Unique Solution
Revisado: 03-28-25
I was surprised and delighted to see a short story from Timothy Zahn on Kindle Unlimited. As a huge fan of his Star Wars novels, I wanted to read some of his new work. This was an intriguing short story about a traveler who is caught in trap and how he works together with some aliens with a unique solution to the problem that helps everyone involved. Greg D. Barnett does a fantastic job on the audiobook version with a lively narration. Still hoping for more Grand Admiral Thrawn books in Star Wars, he is missed.

Thrilling in Parts, Hollywood Ending
Revisado: 03-27-25
I am a fan of the author, he is a legendary producer of classics the Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, V and V the Final Battle to name a few. I loved his prior book the Man of Legends and it is a shame the V books aren't on digital. This book covers an asteroid on course to hit Earth. It is broken up, but parts still fall in the US in Georgia and affect plants, animals and humans. This portion of the book is great and chilling. It lags towards the middle and slows down for a while before picking up at the end. Parts are pure wishful thinking and the ending is definitely Hollywood. The audiobooks was great, voiced by a talented cast. It took me a while to get through this.

Jurrasic Park with Dragons
Revisado: 03-17-25
This is a white knuckle E-Ticket ride. China creates a zoo that contains real live dragons. Reporters and special guests are flown in to experience the zoo before it officially opens. Needless to say, things don't go well and they can't afford to have witnesses. A number of things get out of control. I love the heroine, a scarred vet who specialized in alligators and speaks Mandarin and her photographer brother. They are both great characters who adapt to situations and are brave. The dragons are forces of nature and you definitely feel their power, intelligence and majesty in this book. There is a lot of violence in this book, but it is part of the action and not written as a gore fest, which I greatly appreciated. Great characters, fantastic action and most importantly, believable science. This is in the vein of a Michael Crichton book and it is excellent. I will say I wanted the villain Bao to get eaten by a dragon. I want to read a sequel. Enjoyed this greatly. The audiobooks was fantastic as well. The Kindle version contains helpful drawings that illustrate parts of the zoo.
