Historia
Sloane House is among the most gilded mansions of Gilded Age Chicago. Rosalind Perry, the new housemaid, pours the morning coffee before the hard gaze of her mistress. “It’s simple, Rosalind,” she says. “I am Veronica Sloane, heiress to one of the country’s greatest fortunes. You are simply one in a long line of unsuitable maids.” Back on the farm in Wisconsin, Rosalind’s plan had seemed logical: Move to Chicago. Get hired on at Sloane House. Discover what transpired while her sister worked as a maid there - and follow the clues to why she disappeared.

I should’ve heeded the early signs.
Revisado: 02-09-25
Within the first couple of handfuls of minutes Milwaukee was said to be west of Chicago and the Chicago streets post-fire were described as “winding”.
I considered stopping there. I should have.

Hidden in the depths of eighteenth-century London, a secret apothecary shop caters to an unusual kind of clientele. Women across the city whisper of a mysterious figure named Nella who sells well-disguised poisons to use against the oppressive men in their lives. Loved until the last hour.
Revisado: 06-09-21
I was into this book. Super into it.
I planned my Sunday around only having 5 hours left and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next.
I did overdue housework.
I ate dinner in my car.
I drove on a mad errand to the suburbs.
Just so I could have more listening time.
The ending was such a let down with so many unanswered questions, to the point that it ruined my enjoyment of the earlier parts that I had loved.
I wouldn’t read it again or recommend it to friends.
