Stories about what violence humans can get to when the chips are down are always as fascinating as human psychology is on anything, but it also really scares you sometimes.

I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book if it had been written as a story of things happening as they did, but the interview/story-telling account really sold the story and the horror of it.

The voice acting was incredible. The story was horrific and *fascinating.* I had to take breaks now and then from it but I was desperate to reach the end to KNOW how it ended, as much as I was to have it over with. I really enjoyed it.

This was my very first horror book, so I come back to it with a fair amount of nostalgia. Still holds up as one of the most terrifying books I’ve ever read.

I'm used to maybe the first book in a series being available in the Plus catalog, to lure me into something, get me addicted, and then get me spending my credits on the rest of the series before the previous book has even ended. But this whole trilogy (series?) is on the Plus catalog and I am living my best life listening to them.

The characterization in these books are just phenomenal. The growth. It's beautiful. The ending of this one seemed a little sped up, but I recognize that was probably the circumstances happening and POV. But man, I'm invested. I hope there's more books coming because I'm on the third and I'm gonna be upset if it's the last time I get to hang out with these people.

Man, this hit all my favorite spots. Monster hunters, the supernatural in our world, demons and ghosts and bros. The characters feel super fleshed out and real, the mystery was entertaining and kept me interested, and the reactions to things familiar to the characters and unfamiliar was brilliantly executed.

I love finding a new series to delve into and I’ll be eating this one up. I’m ending this review so I can get the second book going. Definitely worth a read. I really enjoyed this and I’ll be reading it again soon.

Man, I have mixed feelings about this book. I'm writing this review having just finished it a couple hours ago and it's still sitting heavily on me.

I am so glad I found this story. Bentley Little is a fantastic writer of horror - and not just of the supernatural kind. While this story holds a wealth of supernatural horror, and doesn't skimp on its history, the things that really hit home about the story are the horrors of real life. There are hundreds of ghost stories out there, but this one seems to take a very hard look at what kind of mind-bending would come of living in a genuine haunted house, and then it doesn't hold back. Everything from self-harm to compulsive behavior to a persistent feeling of anxiety that just grows throughout the story, echoed in every characters' actions and thoughts.

The book is incredibly good, but it's also not an *easy* read. As someone who has anxiety and who has experienced self-harm, the book can hit a little too close to home and weigh heavy on the mind. Not to mention all of effects you see in the background characters, as well. I'm glad to have read the book. I don't know if I'll read it again, but the story was incredibly well-written, and the narrator did a good job with tone throughout. There were a few places where the audio skipped, and the book could come across a little unnecessarily lengthy at points, but I think it worked well with the overall tone. I really enjoyed the history of the horrors included in the story - they made it even more real.

I enjoy Ambrose Ibsen's work. I can always find a good ghost story, but they're always different and give me new experiences to look back on through a good book.

That being said, I had some issues with this book. I enjoyed the story, and I really liked the main character, but the story is written in first person POV, from the perspective of a college-student on break between terms. Sometimes the language that would be used in the narration was old enough, or flowery-enough, that I would have easily understood it having come from the character if she were an English major or someone who studied literature. But it didn't match her characterization at all, and it kept throwing me out of the story in confusion, because it was like she would suddenly start acting like a different character.

Add onto that that the narrator. She did an amazing job on tone and voices, but mispronounced a number of words that had me gritting my teeth through the book. Overall, a good and interesting story that spanned over years, but frustrating in enough points that I don't know if I'll listen to it again.

I’ve been getting recommendations for Darcy Coates for a few months now and I finally decided to delve into her books with this one. It was the perfect book to start with.

Admittedly, I wasn’t sure at the beginning. The main character didn’t really draw me in. The beginning felt a little purposeless and frankly awkward - although that rather perfectly matched the situation. Even so, I wasn’t too sure, but I stuck it out and it paid off in spades.

What an amazing story, filled with horror, ghosts, twists and turns and a delightful mystery to solve. All the pieces of the puzzle were artfully distributed throughout the story from the very first page, and trying to beat Margot to putting them together was so much fun.

If you’re looking for a ghost story or even a really good mystery, I would definitely suggest this book. It starts out slow and a little unsure, but like a good bottle of wine, you need to savor it. It’ll leave you wanting for more.

I really enjoyed the story told here. Nothing beats a good treasure hunt. Adventure, mystery, a massive amount of history that I can’t wait to study more of, and fascinating characters. Scott Brick is a wonderfully talented narrator able to voice a multitude of characters and enhance each of their personalities with his performance.

We’ve all read books about zombies or seen the movies. Whether they shamble along brokenly or are hordes of mewling teeth running at breakneck speed after their next meal, zombies have been done before.

And then J.B. Havens kicked the door in and handed us Molly.

I love this book. I’ve read it before and I loved it then, but hearing it brought a whole new level of awesome (and a whole new level of nightmares) to the story. Kathleen McHenry took J.B. Havens’ masterful introduction to a brand new type of zombie and I am fucking sold. I am invested. I am going to follow this series - may it be longer than an uncontested zombie’s not-lifespan - to its conclusion, knowing that every word I read (or listen to) is going to be absolutely epic.

If you haven’t read it yet, pick up a copy. Grab two - one to read and one to hear, because we’ve just been introduced to a story that will blow every other zombie story out of the water and leave them wanting.
