Historia
When Orwell went to England in the 30's to find out how industrial workers lived, he not only observed but shared in their experiences. He stayed in cramped, dreary lodgings and subsisted on the scant, cheerless diet of the poor. He went down into the coal mines and walked crouching, as the miners did, through a one- to three-mile passage too low to stand up in. He watched the back-breaking, dangerous labor of men whose net pay then averaged $575 a year.

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 03-14-18
This is a very good book with a horrible narrator. Ive had to suffer through several very good books because Audible has not rerecorded them with a decent narrator . Davidson has one of those over the top insufferable British accents that were popular during the 1940's I'm talking about the fake Cary Grant accent: Judy, Judy, Judy . AWFUL . The content was good enough to slog through

Historia
The definitive account of the O. J. Simpson trial, The Run of His Life is a prodigious feat of reporting that could have been written only by the foremost legal journalist of our time. First published less than a year after the infamous verdict, Jeffrey Toobin's nonfiction masterpiece tells the whole story, from the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman to the ruthless gamesmanship behind the scenes of "the trial of the century".

Where did they get this narrator?
Revisado: 04-23-17
Well written so far, I'm only a quarter of the way, but the narrator is TERRIBLE. The guy actually has a lisp.

Gabriel Allon, the art restorer, spy, and assassin described as the most compelling fictional creation "since Ian Fleming put down his martini and invented James Bond" ( Rocky Mountain News), is poised to become the chief of Israel's secret intelligence service. But on the eve of his promotion, events conspire to lure him into the field for one final operation. ISIS has detonated a massive bomb in the Marais district of Paris, and a desperate French government wants Gabriel to eliminate the man responsible before he can strike again.

Audible, please retire this narrator. Why does he have to ruin so many good books.

Historia
First published in 1733 as Ecole de Cavalerie by François Robichon de la Guérinière, this book is considered as the beginning of modern equitation. The book is most famous for its introduction of the shoulder-in. The theories in this book provide the basis for all modern equitation, and it is probably the most important work on the subject ever written. It was translated from the French to English by Tracy Boucher.

Why is this Midwestern American woman narrating Robichon de la Gueriniere? It hurt so bad.

Historia
The year is 1327. Franciscans in a wealthy Italian abbey are suspected of heresy, and Brother William of Baskerville arrives to investigate. But his delicate mission is suddenly overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths that take place in seven days and nights of apocalyptic terror. Brother William turns detective, and a uniquely deft one at that. His tools are the logic of Aristotle, the theology of Aquinas, the empirical insights of Roger Bacon-- all sharpened to a glistening edge by his wry humor and ferocious curiosity.

Revisado: 01-08-15
What did you like best about The Name of the Rose? What did you like least?
The story, which I have read is timeless.
Any additional comments?
After waiting for so long for an unabridged edition I was so disappointed to hear the book being narrated by the ancient scratchy voice of a monk. Surely, he was young and energetic when the events took place so why why why

Historia
Happily retired in the village of Three Pines, Armand Gamache, former Chief Inspector of Homicide with the Sûreté du Québec, has found a peace he'd only imagined possible. On warm summer mornings he sits on a bench holding a small book, The Balm in Gilead, in his large hands. "There is a balm in Gilead," his neighbor Clara Morrow reads from the dust jacket, "to make the wounded whole." While Gamache doesn't talk about his wounds and his balm, Clara tells him about hers. Peter, her artist husband, has failed to come home. Failed to show up as promised on the first anniversary of their separation. She wants Gamache's help to find him. Having finally found sanctuary, Gamache feels a near revulsion at the thought of leaving Three Pines. "There’s power enough in Heaven," he finishes the quote as he contemplates the quiet village, "to cure a sin-sick soul." And then he gets up. And joins her.

Not a lot of original material
Revisado: 08-29-14
What disappointed you about The Long Way Home?
Although I enjoyed the book, if you remove exposition and backstory the book would be cut down in half. It's a bit of cheating on Ms. Penny's part and although new readers will apreciate her long introduction to the different personalities of Three Pines for those of us who have read her previous books, it's tedious. I believe Ms. Penny could have taken her time and produced a better story. She has fantastic potential and should not succumb to the pressure to produce a new book every two to three years.
Which character – as performed by Ralph Cosham – was your favorite?
Ralph Cosham has now become the voice of Inspector Gamache for me.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I enjoyed the story but Ms. Penny needs to focus on the story telling us about the characters.
Any additional comments?
Not her best.
