Historia
Settled into a relationship with an Italian yoga instructor and working in Europe, Dr. Orville Rose's peace is shaken by his mother's death. Not what I expected but very enjoyable
Revisado: 06-20-24
Granted I’m soon to be moving to a small town to be a small town doctor, so I was drawn in. I loved The House of God and was looking for something similar. What I found wasn’t that at all but just as enjoyable. There’s more heart and soul to this story. The writing is fabulous and the narrator excellent. I’ll likely listen again.

Historia
Physician, researcher, and ethics professor Matt McCarthy is on the front lines of a groundbreaking clinical trial testing a new antibiotic to fight lethal superbugs, bacteria that have built up resistance to the life-saving drugs in our rapidly dwindling arsenal. This trial serves as the backdrop for the compulsively listenable Superbugs, and the results will impact nothing less than the future of humanity.

Terrific even as somebody in medicine.

I’m always hesitant to start a book that might be targeted to the general public but after “The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly” I had hope. It was not misplaced; this book was excellent as a soon to be physician. I’ve heard some of it before but I appreciated the historical aspects and clinical wisdom of trials that I definitely wouldn’t get anywhere else.

Historia
Dan Delgado is a private investigator. When it comes to finding cheating spouses, corporate thieves, or runaway teenagers, he’s unenthusiastic, and unmatched. As a former San Francisco detective, he misses more meaningful work, but he hasn’t had the heart for it since his wife’s death five years prior. That is, until a phone call from a distraught mother, an illegal immigrant who can’t go to the police, puts him on the hunt for a missing little girl. By the time he reaches the mother’s small home, she’s missing, too. The circumstances are strange....

Basic story with a twist
Revisado: 01-26-20
This was one of those books I didn’t love but finished. I was invested enough to ride it out and see how it ended but it’s far from a literary masterpiece. It was good enough and had a clever twist but for the most part the lines were obvious and descriptions basic. The narration was, of course, wonderful.

Great narrator, couldn’t get through an hour.
Revisado: 10-04-19
It was just so implausible. I’m all for zombies done right, this was just sloppy. When the second character introduced had two Glock 18s that he went to town with I couldn’t continue. Nothing kept me engaged. It felt like it was written by a college freshman who was interested in zombies.

Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

Great for the layman, a little underwhelming for scientists in the field.
Revisado: 06-08-19
If it wasn’t featured on NPR it sounds exactly like it was. It feels like a very well done podcast, not a book you’d pay for or spend a credit on which is likely why it’s free. If you’re interested in the subject and haven’t studied biology or physiology you’ll likely really enjoy this since it’s informative without the annoying science details. Unfortunately, I was hoping for those details.

Historia
The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?" Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun. We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near. When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate. The survivors do what is necessary.

What a series. Well written from grammar to story. The decisions characters make always fall in line with what would make sense for them. Obstacles faced by the characters are overcome in realistic and inventive ways, and it’s easy to develop a strong connection to each one. This is a series I’m sure I’ll be come back to time after time, and I’m sure I’ll identify with different characters each time.

With Earth no longer habitable and the Mars colony slowly failing, they are humanity's best hope. After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. This is the first time William dies.

Poorly written story twice as long as it should have been.
Revisado: 03-13-19
Having a background in physiology thoroughly ruined the whole premise of this book. Clearly the author has a very limited understanding of it. I’m happy to accept outlandish sci-fi but when there are such blatant contradictions it’s difficult to get in to the story. Hours of the book were unnecessary and so cliched. The ending was predictable after the first half our. I really regret listening to this book to the end. But on the bright side, RC Bray narrated it. Had he not I wouldn’t have been able to make it more than an hour.
