Historia
A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

give it a chance
Revisado: 03-05-24
I have almost put this book down for the second time, but I'm glad I didn't.
It starts as a really slow book with a YA feel to it which I don't like. I also tend to dislike time travel in my fiction. But once you get past the initial loop this book gets really great and refuses to let you put it down.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

A good but not great classic
Revisado: 04-29-23
2.5 / 5
The prose is really good (For the most part). The main character is really bad. Not badly written, just whiny and unlikable. The story is good and I like the moral conveyed in it.
This classic is definitely a good read and I'm glad I finally know Frankenstein and his monster in their original form, but I can't really enjoy a book unless I like the MC (with the sole exception of Eco's The Prague Cemetery).

Not fun
Revisado: 02-22-23
After finishing Assassin's Apprentice which was OK, I had hope the second book would improve to deserve all the praise and high ratings this series received.
But this is just ridiculous. Like a half or more of the characters are insufferable and act nonsensically. The supposedly smartest and most powerful good guys are doing nothing for no reason, while the bad guy does anything and everything he wants rather transparently. The whole thing is just depressing, dumb and far too pathetic. It's also really slow and the name doesn't fit at all.
On the other hand the performance improved. The characters are better distinguished and there isn't an apparent failure to hide an accent like in the first audiobook.

Historia
Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

3.5 out of 5 rounded up
Revisado: 03-03-22
3.5 out of 5 rounded up due to the one star reviews from trve socjus believers
The book has plenty of good information and examples of the socjus secular religion and the strange Islam apologia in modern west. It gives a good look behind the scenes of (Canadian) academia. Author recounts some interesting experience of Jewish family fleeing the Lebanese civil war.
The book suffers from Saad's gigantic ego and first half contains too many recounts of Twitter spats (probably even one would be too many).

Historia
An existence spent being forced to kill others to satiate a Monster. Where the only thing to look forward to was the blessed, if brief, period of time between paying that bribe. Except that very same Monster is and isn’t Rene. It just happened to live inside his own mind and force him to do what it wanted. Rather than being an actual Monster. That was Rene’s entire life until a fateful day changed that. A day that the career as a hitman for hire built on the Monster’s needs will end. Where Rene will be forced to atone for his actions. To be held accountable and judged.

Beyond cringe
Revisado: 02-15-22
There are some redeeming qualities. The action scenes are actually pretty good and there are some bright moments in the story.
But there's too much terribad cringe inducing and even nonsensical dialogues, creepy child characters, sh*tty rhymes, poor attempts at grim dark, and the book offers nothing harem wise.
It's not for me and I can't think of anyone it's for.

Pretty wild interesting world!
Revisado: 02-12-22
This book has it all, pirates, assassins, Lovecraftian monsters, immortal tyrant, imperial politics, and more. Also, it all works perfectly together thanks to the writing and narration. The story is captivating, the world and its principles interesting. Listening to the book induces my imagination and makes me want to see the world. Can't wait to hear more!

What a pleasant surprise
Revisado: 12-28-21
I bought it just out of curiosity as I never read/heard anything from this author.
It's very well written, especially the first half of the book. There were some overly pathetic scenes in the second half, but most of the book is interesting and enjoyable. I will definitely get the next book in this series. Can recommend.

It turns out the people on this island are being trained to hunt the darkness - basically, they’re being trained to hunt me.

I'm probably not the target audience but the contents are fun enough. The narration is also pretty good but there are a couple of weird pauses. The form of the writing seems like it has a lot of room to improve.
