Wow- stories and narration
Revisado: 01-12-25
I find these Chronicles of Amber very satisfying story yarns. They start near enough to a familiar world in Book 1 and seemlessly wind into a believable strange universe. Compelling story conflicts without being too close to my own daily challenges.
It took me a short time to shift and appreciate this narrator of the later books. Apart from a couple mispronunciations of names Zelazny borrows from old Irish folklore, I enjoy Wheaton's narration. His voices for Merlin and Luke are strong and distinct. I listen at slow speed to slow my brain before bed and Wheaton's voice is rich slowed down.

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

Well crafted, but too gruesome for me
Revisado: 04-12-24
Excellent narrator. I liked all the voices except Al who was supposed to have a hybrid American-Brit accent. I need to look up what other books Glenister has recorded.
Galbraith-Rowling really creates some wonderful characters and storylines. The gruesomeness however was too much for me. I did finish it tho because I wanted to know what happened next.

In a village in ancient Norway lives a boy named Odd, and he's had some very bad luck: His father perished in a Viking expedition; a tree fell on and shattered his leg; the endless freezing winter is making villagers dangerously grumpy. Out in the forest Odd encounters a bear, a fox, and an eagle - three creatures with a strange story to tell. Now Odd is forced on a stranger journey than he had imagined, a journey to save Asgard, city of the gods, from the Frost Giants who have invaded it.

Historia
After having his heart trampled on by his cheating ex, Carter Ogden is afraid love just isn’t in the cards for him. He still holds out hope in a tiny corner of his heart, but even in his wildest dreams he never thought he’d meet the Crown Prince of England, much less do a lot more with him. Yes, growing up he’d fantasized about the handsome, openly gay Prince Edgar, but who hadn’t? When they meet by chance at an event Carter’s boss is organizing, Carter’s sure he imagined all that sizzling chemistry. Or was it mutual?

Excellent production and story
Revisado: 01-07-24
Rudnick is a great story teller. I read he had done a lot of the re-write on The Addams Family screenplay (filmed in 1991 starring Angelica Huston & Raul Julia). That made me curious to check out his work. I'm happy to find a new-to-me author whose humor, storytelling, character creation, and ability to connect with universal emotions inspires me.

Historia
Healing the Shame That Binds You is the most enduring work of family relationship expert and New York Times best-selling author John Bradshaw. In it, he shows how unhealthy toxic shame, often learned young and maintained into adulthood, is the core component in our compulsions, co-dependencies, addictions and drive to superachieve.

Really hard to listen to fir me- But information so far is great
Revisado: 09-10-23
I should've realized the narrator drove me nuts from the sample but previously read Bradshaw work is so good, I proceeded to purchase.
The beginning is so academic that I wanted to turn it off. Academic in the sense of being so over the top correct and specific with definitions that the real meaning gets lost. Long discussion of the word "effect" so that the listener needs to translate the word when it's brought up again.
I think there is so much great information here but I've lost my patience to listen when the delivery isn't easy on my senses. Could be totally different for you.

Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn't mean she's going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter. Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key.

Idealized characters and dynamics, big change from TH
Revisado: 01-21-23
I was uneasy with the change in perspective from father to daughter writing about Chee and Leaphorn and the gang.
In Spider Woman's Daughter, Anne Hillerman writes idealized characters whereas her father who created Leaphorn and Chee illuminated the humanity in the bad guys and the human foibles of the good guys. Character behavior made sense and conflict was natural and enriched the story line.
It will be interesting to see what Anne Hillerman will create in terms of her own characters. Humor and creativity are evident in this tale she has spun. Character wise, I liked the blue sedan driving mother of one of the suspects and Louisa.
The narrator was able to create distinct voices for the characters. Some of the voices sound Southern Colorado to me. I haven't spent time in AZ to know the accuracy of accents. Importantly, characters are distinct so I knew who was talking and could follow easily.

Historia
The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse is the most comprehensive and helpful audiobook on the topic of covert narcissism. This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused.

Some solid information, tone I didn't like
Revisado: 09-22-22
There is some good/great information in this book about concealed narcissism. There are good stories to display dynamics the author wants to express which may be very useful to you.
What bothered me was the repetitive tone of Narcissists are evil and you are perfect.
Harriet Braiker's tone in Who's Pulling Your Strings: How to Break the Cycle of Manipulation and regain control of your life felt more balanced to me. Survivors of abuse need to understand manipulation behavior and also understand their own attitudes/habits that make them vulnerable or obvious targets to manipulators.
Though not specifically about covert narcissism, other authors or books I found helpful: Who's Pulling Your Strings, Stop Caretaking the Borderline or Narcissist, Out of the Fog, Psychopath Free, Healing Trauma: Guided Imagery for Posttraumatic Stress, and works by John O'Donohue and Clarisa Pinkola Estes.

He and his cohorts are brought in by the Romanian government to investigate two impalement murders tied to high-level intrigue in Transylvania. Using their signature unconventional investigating methods, Rick, Helga, and Lute venture forth into the regions of Romania and England where Bram Stoker was inspired to write about the renowned Count of vampire fame.

Not for everybody but I thoroughly enjoyed it
Revisado: 04-02-21
I bought this book after listening to The Orphans of New Lur which is also narrated by Kristian Eros.
I like the old-time, tongue-in-cheek, melodramatic adventures set in a modern world. The main characters are a cross between geocachers and detectives. The occasional violence has a swashbuckling feel. Light hearted and funny.
Eros somehow hits the amusing tone perfectly which I find delightful as it shows his range from Sci-fi fantasy to a mystery with old-time flavor.
