Historia
The survivor writing to us is an empathic 18-year-old named Tommy. He’s been sealed in a three-acre biosphere with just one other person, and the outside world has been radio-silent for the three years of their enclosure. Tommy is in telepathic contact with someone living during our time who may hold the key to an evolutionary metamorphosis. The journals, entitled Parallel Journeys, have been sent back in time to inspire you to create your own metamorphic butterfly effects to help our species avoid extinction and survive in a new form.

Broad vocabulary helps reader appreciate nuances of character interactions. Dark themes caution.
Revisado: 02-17-25
Mr. Zap utilizes a broad vocabulary and descriptors to help the reader understand the nuances of interactions between the characters. This book is not for everyone. I became hooked when I listened to the trailer on his website and immediately used one of my audible credits to purchase it. The book touches on a variety of paranormal and alternative lifestyle themes of which I am already somewhat familiar and so I appreciated it greatly. Some parts of the book were extremely dark and may be triggering to some readers. The middle part of the book was somewhat difficult to get through. It seemed it might never end and bring me back to the characters I longed to get back to, but it eventually came around. I was at first disappointed in lack of main female characters. However the end of the book helped a little in helping me understand the reason.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

After chapter 6
Revisado: 01-23-19
The only reason I made it to the end of this book is because I had faith in my fellow reviewers that it was a story worth my time.
The starting chapters are just a poorly managed effort to show off literary prose. I almost gave up on this book as a bad choice but the story finally started to come into focus after what I would call the world setting chapters.
The characters ended up strong and interesting as well as the world. Jemisin is best with his character development. Most of his scenes seem a little light on description and could be a little more grounded.
In the I enjoyed the book, but it is not one I would recommend to a friend. I plan on reading/listening to book 2 because I have a horrible addiction to stories.
