Christian tradition often seems to give only grudging approval to married life, particularly its sexual aspect. In these sermons of St John Chrysostom, we find an important corrective to this view.

Historia
In Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary, Dr. Pitre takes listeners step-by-step from the Garden of Eden to the Book of Revelation to reveal how deeply biblical Catholic beliefs about Mary really are. Dr. Pitre uses the Old Testament and ancient Judaism to unlock how the Bible itself teaches that Mary is in fact the new Eve, the Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and the new Ark of the Covenant.

Hail Mary
Revisado: 06-30-23
This book is a must read. Sacred Tradition is frequently rooted in the Jewish tradition that Jesus and the Apostles understood and followed. Mary is the New Matriarch of the Children of Israel—the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

Historia
In this bold, momentous work, the pope, in his first book written as Benedict XVI, seeks to salvage the person of Jesus from recent "popular" depictions and to restore Jesus' true identity as discovered in the Gospels. Through his brilliance as a theologian and his personal conviction as a believer, the pope shares a rich, compelling, flesh-and-blood portrait of Jesus and incites us to encounter, face-to-face, the central figure of the Christian faith.

Chapters Not Synced
Revisado: 03-09-23
Jesus of Nazareth is unquestionably a profound exegesis on the public ministry of Jesus based on both the Old Testament and New Testament.
The biggest issue with this audio is that none of the chapter bookmarks align with the book. This makes it nearly impossible to read the book alongside the audio book. Further, it makes it impossible to focus on or return to a particular aspect from the book.
This issue has nothing to do with the content or speaker, but to Random House’s poor job editing and finalizing the audio—mainly to sync with the book. Random House should fix this issue immediately.

Prophetic Catechesis
Revisado: 11-20-22
Pope Francis is a many of few words, but when he speaks, he does so in a deliberate manner conveying his message concisely and simply. We need to urge this call for a return to fraternal civility towards our neighbor now more than any other message.
This encyclical may be the most impactful one I have read so far simply because of the prophetic nature of several topics. For example, the messages have proven extremely relevant in light of the war in Ukraine, Iran helping Russia develop war drones, the threat of nuclear war, refugees from Venezuela, Syria, and Ukraine, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the conflict in Palestine, the massacres against the poor in Brazil, and the hostility in political elections across the globe, including Brazil, the US, Chile, Honduras, Germany, and France.

Historia
Saint John of the Cross was a Spanish mystic and poet, Catholic saint, Carmelite friar and priest, and a leading figure of the Counter-Reformation. The Ascent of Mount Carmel is divided into three sections, and presented as a commentary on four poetic stanzas. St. John portrays the various mystical experiences that the soul must endure in its ascent to the metaphorical Mount Carmel (the place of God or union with the divine).

Translation Issue
Revisado: 11-13-22
The Ascent of Mount Carmel has been one of the most influential spiritual reads for me outside of the Bible. I highly recommend that others read this book particularly if they’re caught up in more of the intellectual areas of the faith and need growth in the emotional or application sides of the faith.
This audio translation, however, is not as good as the one by Kieran Kavanaugh and Otilio Rodriguez. I’d recommend that version over this one.

Powerful Encyclical
Revisado: 11-11-22
St. John Paul II provides clear directives for the Church following the Second Vatican Council. This letter addresses several issues facing the Church with a profound depth and relative simplicity. This letter continues to bless the Church in its future mission.
The only issue with this audio recording is that two sections were skipped in the audio.

Historia
Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle is one of the most celebrated books ever written by a mystic on abiding in union with Christ. Writing in obedience to the requests of two of her superiors, the humble 16th century Spanish sister protests "...for the love of God, let me get on with my spinning and go to choir...like the other sisters...I am not meant for writing; I have neither the health nor the wits for it."

The Interior Prayer Life
Revisado: 10-04-22
St. Teresa of Avila instructs us about how we may order ours lives to ensure the importance of prayer, humility, and devotion. While many may focus on the fruits of such practices, St. Teresa is more concerned about the interior movements necessary to reach the interior castle. Only points off were for the translation being different than the more recent one.
