Historia
At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated.

Good story, honest.
Revisado: 07-31-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. The story is the reality of what happened to this doctor/man, and how it affected him and as a professional and as a person with his family. I Loved that he was open even when he was dying. What is thoughts were, how things were going to be when he was gone and he even faced the fact that he found himself on the otherside of the coil, the patient and not the doctor.
Would you be willing to try another book from Paul Kalanithi and Abraham Verghese - foreword ? Why or why not?
No, because Paul died and don't know who Abraham Verghese is.
Which scene was your favorite?
Toward the end when he knew he'd be leaving the planet. He was very real about how he was feeling. I love that.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, my life is too busy and I need sleep at night. ; )

Historia
Hourglass is an inquiry into how marriage is transformed by time—abraded, strengthened, shaped in miraculous and sometimes terrifying ways by accident and experience. With courage and relentless honesty, Dani Shapiro opens the door to her house, her marriage, and her heart, and invites us to witness her own marital reckoning--a reckoning in which she confronts both the life she dreamed of and the life she made, and struggles to reconcile the girl she was with the woman she has become.

A little disappointed...
Revisado: 07-31-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No, unfortunately. There were a few parts that were okay, but where was the story? I wanted more truth, more reality. I know what it's like to be married, and I think she would have revealed more about her marriage. The reality of the sex, the realness of feeling like shit and having sex anyway, the real feelings. Did she want more kids? Did she not? What else might she have wanted to be in life? I want to hear more about Dani, the woman. I think she would have been more real if she knew her husband wouldn't have read it. IMHO, I think she should have written it in anyway.
Would you ever listen to anything by Dani Shapiro again?
Yes, I like her work. This one didn't do it for me though. When it ended, I thought. What? Is it over?
Would you listen to another book narrated by Dani Shapiro?
Yes
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No

Historia
In her phenomenally popular essays and long-running Tumblr blog, Roxane Gay has written with intimacy and sensitivity about food and body, using her own emotional and psychological struggles as a means of exploring our shared anxieties over pleasure, consumption, appearance, and health. As a woman who describes her own body as "wildly undisciplined", Roxane understands the tension between desire and denial, between self-comfort and self-care.

A little disappointed ...
Revisado: 07-31-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, it's about 40 chapters too long. Love Roxane Gay's work, but this one just didn't work for me. I got that she had an abused childhood but so did a lot of us. The whole fat culture is real, but so are lot of things that people are mean about which is A LOT, and they are usually uneducated about things they know nothing of.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was okay, nothing out of the ordinary happened. I got a little irritated toward the end wondering when it would end.
What three words best describe Roxane Gay’s performance?
Nuance, attitude & indifference came across. The reading of her own book was kind of cool, but I could pick up nuances that she may or may not have been aware of, and I felt her attitude was kind of like spoiled child/adult this book. She had a lot of family support that most abused kids don't have. She called a lot of people out on their shit which I think is great, because it's honest. But whenever someone does that in a pointed finger way, they usually need to look inside themselves.
What else would you have wanted to know about Roxane Gay’s life?
I'd love to eventually know she cares about her health and live a long time. I'd also love to know she's making a difference in young peoples as a professor.
Any additional comments?
Just seriously disappointed, 40 chapters too long and repeated quite a bit.

Historia
Spirit touches us in every moment of our existence; only most of us are caught up in the dramas that we have created in our lives, blinding us to a reality far greater than anything we can imagine with our rational minds. It is simply a matter of awareness. Though we often feel lost and abandoned in a cold and uncaring world, the truth is that we live in the illusion of our own self-created exile, away from the Source of our being which has never stopped loving us - unconditionally.

Fabulous Read
Revisado: 01-05-17
Where does Spirit Matters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
A Big 5!
I’m a lover of real books, I like to touch and feel them, turn the pages, but Matt’s book - Spirit Matters via Audible has made me a believer in listening to story. It’s a special gift to be told a story directly by the author. It felt like I was right in front of him as he was telling me his story delving into his life as I was learning new things. He introduced me to his family, friends and his childhood as a carefree boy getting into mischief as curious boys do. I walked down the streets where he lived then he took me on his spiritual journey where I felt safe to go because he’d revealed his own spirit, one of loyalty and trust.
What did you like best about this story?
I love learning new things and I’m fascinated by Mother Nature’s humongous garden that of which Matt is a plant expert. He devours a ton of information and goes on to develop concoctions of special plants to help enhance his mind to take adventures through the spiritual door, to another place, another time and other dimensions. I found myself wanting to go with him. He is a natural teacher and there are subtle nuances in his voice that picked me up and placed me into in the jungle with him. Each experience takes him deeper into his spiritual path and he learns more about himself and the Universe than he could probably ever put into words on the page.
A must read or listen to take you places you might not have gone before and will make you hungry or at least curious to go deeper for yourself!
Which character – as performed by Matthew J. Pallamary – was your favorite?
Himself, because it was his journey.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I finished it in four nights only because I value sleep. It was hard to put down.
Any additional comments?
More. Would love to know more about Matt's spiritual experiences.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Great listen and my very first audio book!
Revisado: 05-15-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Naked to be better than the print version?
I enjoyed listening to this book and just recently won a copy from the author, Julie Freed! This was the first book I've listened too and enjoyed it a lot. I get quite sleepy sometimes reading a print version and with this I just sat back and listened.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Besides the protagonist of course, I liked Jim. Jim was there when Julie needed him most. Her family was too, but I like getting to know other characters involved in what was experienced.
What does Julie Freed bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her own voice, it was so inspiring to know she recorded this herself! She really sat down to tell me her story!
If you could give Naked a new subtitle, what would it be?
Stripped
Leveled (disasters like hurricanes and divorces have a way of leveling the playing field.)
I think NAKED was appropriate
Any additional comments?
Great "listen", try it! Now I'm going to stick with it because I like the flavor of audio when I get lazy and just want to listen. Time for a new book, I have a free one! Thanks for writing NAKED Julie ~
