Very well done. Recommended it to my daughter, which I don’t often do. I’ll be looking for other books by the author.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Infuriating…gut wrenching…and vital
Revisado: 06-24-23
It’s taken almost two years for me to get through this book. Quite frankly, I didn’t think I could complete it. Even as a man of color, there was so much I was unaware of about the atrocities and injustices that took place and still do. So I had to take the passages in small increments because I became so angry the more I heard. The deep sadness was too much at times. I know the book has been removed from too many libraries, which is yet another injustice. The continued efforts to sanitize and white wash, literally, history is a huge setback for equality. Everyone should read this book. Now, I’ll see if I can finish “The Warmth of Other Suns.” Thank you Ms. Wilkerson for writing these books. You should get at least one Pulitzer.

Important...necessary...resonate...hopeful
Revisado: 03-28-21
I’ve listened to several interviews Mr. Blow has done with regard to his book, his manifesto and his overarching views of where we are and where we’ve been as a group. So I thought I knew what to expect in and from the book. I was wrong.
While there were the expected passages of depressive events, there was far more hope and the laying out of a more positive path than we have been traveling. I too have tired of explaining or seeking equity. I have grown exhausted waiting for others to get right while they continue to kill and marginalize us. As Richard Prior once said, “When we seek Justice that’s pretty much what we find...just us.”
I’ve been contemplating moving to NC but given the history, have been a bit reticent. This book, this message, this invitation has made it more of a possibility.

Too Down on the FBI
Revisado: 07-19-19
Full disclosure, I'm a former FBI agent. I would be the first to acknowledge that, like any profession, you're going to have bad actors. And while I normally love a Jack Reacher story, this one was just too over the top in casting the Agents as characters you just couldn't help dislike, with passion, and as rogue criminals, willing to do anything to prevail. There's one particular passage, during the initial interview with Reacher, that I had to really fight the urge to stop listening to the book and return it for a credit. Not Lee Child's best work.
And nothing against McClain. I started listening to the Reacher novels when Dick Hill narrated them, so that was the bar that had been set for the "voice" of Reacher in my mind.
