The fortitude and commitment coupled with their absolutely bad ass strength has made the characters vital and dynamic. Great series it took me a while to discover, I recommend you “dive in.”

Burke as always, brings me into the story so deeply that when I look up I’m surprised by my place and time. Textured, multidimensional characters coping with the awful reality of slavery and war with their individual human frailties and strengths so poignantly I am left wanting to know these people longer. Great book from America’s treasure James Lee Burke 5 star
