Adisa Johnson is living her dream of practicing law with a prestigious firm in downtown Atlanta. Then a split-second mistake changes the course of her career. Left with no other options, Adisa returns to her hometown, where, a few days earlier, a white police officer shot an unarmed black teen who is now lying comatose in the hospital. Adisa is itching to jump into the fight as a special prosecutor but feels pulled to do what she considers unthinkable as a young black woman — defend the officer.

Horrible, Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 09-06-19
I really like Robert Whitlow stories for numerous reasons; that is why I gritted my teeth and painfully bore the awful narration by Heath McClure. This narrator turns the details of an otherwise good story into a cold pile of lumpy mashed potatoes. Seriously folks, this narrator is that bad.
I tried several titles of Whitlow, even though I knew Heath McClure was the narrator. My hope was that the narrator would improve his skill somewhat. No such luck - this guy not only didn't improved, I think he got worse.
I will NEVER NEVER NEVER purchase another book with Heath McClure as the narrator.
I'm returning this book as well - good story, but a narrator that totally robs you of a good experience.

Horrible Narrator!
Revisado: 09-06-19
As with all of the Robert Whitlow books that are read by Heath McClure, the narration is absolutely horrible. Whitlow stories are generally very good, but when read by Heath McClure, the stories are ruined. Heath McClure should not be working as a narrator. Seriously, he simply is not gifted with narration skill - his tone is wrong, his intonation is wrong, and his verbal punctuation is often wrong.
I am going to return this Whitlow book, as I have returned numerous others read by this horrible narrator.

In Holt Douglas' line of work, there's nothing sweeter than a confession of guilt. Assistant D.A. Holt Douglas makes his living exposing lies and sending criminals to jail in Ashley County, Georgia. His job is always easier when defendants, instead of remaining silent, blame someone else or try to excuse their actions. With a confession in his hand, Holt knows a guilty plea will soon follow. But lurking in Holt's past is a dark secret that could end his successful career and possibly his relationship with Angelina, his hoped-for fiancé.

Story is Decent - NARRATOR IS TERRIBLE!
Revisado: 08-15-19
Robert Whitlow is one of my favorite authors. Whenever his stories are read by any narrator other than Heath McClure, the story comes alive. McClure is the worst narrator that I've ever heard on Audible.
If you're an aspiring author and want to publish your story on audio, AVOID HEATH MCCLURE! I'm serious folks, his narrating will ruin any story.

Very good story - clean - morally upright - enjoyed the whole book!
...and most importantly with an audio book, this particular Whitlow piece has a very good narrator.

Horrible Narrator!
Revisado: 07-29-19
Robert Whitlow is a great author - his stories always are filled with great story components. However, Heath McClure is one of the WORST narrators that I've ever heard.
Because I like Whitlow stories, I'll probably listen to the rest of his books - but I'm afraid I'll have to suffer through Heath McClure's reading.
McClure's narrating has almost no infection, no character variation, and hardly no feeling. I cannot understand why Whitlow chose this narrator for so many of his books.
Robert, if you want your books to be recommended, trash these audio versions and have them re-read by a REALLY GOOD narrator.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

What would have made The Grapes of Wrath better?
Get rid of the bad language!
What could John Steinbeck have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Get rid of the bad language!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Get rid of the bad language!
Any additional comments?
I stopped listening to this book after a chapter or two because of the offensive profanity that Steinbeck seen fit to put into his book - TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!

Historia
Eliza Harris, a slave whose child is to be sold, escapes her beloved home on the Shelby plantation in Kentucky and heads North, eluding the hired slave catchers. Aided by the underground railroad, Quakers, and others opposed to the Fugitive Slave Act, Eliza, her son, and her husband George run toward Canada. As the Harrises flee to freedom, another slave, Uncle Tom, is sent "down the river" for sale. Too loyal to abuse his master's trust, too Christian to rebel, Tom wrenches himself from his family.

One of the BEST books I've ever Heard!
Revisado: 06-04-13
Would you listen to Uncle Tom's Cabin again? Why?
Yes - just a great, clean book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, too long. But it could be because several sub-plots are happening at the same time.
Any additional comments?
Just a great book.
