Historia
In the frigid days of February 1870, Caroline Ingalls and her family leave the familiar comforts of the Big Woods of Wisconsin and the warm bosom of her family for a new life in Kansas Indian Territory. Packing what they can carry in their wagon, Caroline, her husband, Charles, and their little girls, Mary and Laura, head west to settle in a beautiful, unpredictable land full of promise and peril. The pioneer life is a hard one, especially for a pregnant woman with no friends or kin to turn to for comfort or help.

Mixed emotions
Revisado: 04-19-23
I have read the Little House books many times as a child and as an adult and love them. I will not be rereading this book which is why I couldn't give it more than 3 stars. I was very interested in reading Ma's view of events. I was glad the author followed the Little House fictional storyline while making corrections based on actual events. In my mind I could follow Laura's story while seeing it from Caroline's view.
However, two major things ruined the book for me. First was Carolina's bad attitude towards everything. So much negativity! I hope she wasn't such a pious, grouchy woman in real life but if she was, I think her attitude could have been mitigated in this fictional telling. Secondly, was the over description of child birth and sex. I think the type of person who would be interested in reading this book, will not be one who is interested in detailed sex scenes. While not vulgar, they left me uncomfortable. The emotions that are meant to be expressed by these portions of the book could have been handled more discretely.
I would only recommend this book with a warning of the explicit and intimate details.

Awesome WWII story, detailed, riveting. Great narrator. I almost quit after the first few chapters but so glad I finished the book.

Historia
Step back to Christianity's first three centuries to see how it transitioned from the religion of Jesus to a religion about Jesus. How did a single group from among many win the struggle for dominance to establish the beliefs central to the faith, rewrite the history of Christianity's internal conflicts, and produce a canon of sacred texts – the New Testament – that supported its own views?

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-16-22
I realized this would not be a theological discussion. I did not expect, however, that it would be a mockery of Christianity. Any course should be given as a serious study of the subject. I have studied other religions of the world and was always able to take the approach that, although I don't believe as these people do, I respect that they have reasons for believing the way they do and sincerely want to learn about their beliefs, history, and customs even though I choose not to practice the religion. I would hope that non-Christians would want to learn about Christianity in the same manner. The professor could have presented this course as a simple history of early Christianity but chose instead to find obscure references that have little to do with the religion. (i.e. - Jesus had a twin brother.) This is not the history of the church but a farce created to belittle the earnest study of something that has greatly influenced the entire world. (Please reference The Great Courses lecture by J Rufus Fears, The Wisdom of History.) You don't have to believe something to acknowledge that it a serious subject worthy of careful study.

Crude Language {cringe}
Revisado: 07-27-19
I was excited to see a new novel similar to The Alice Network. I really liked the story. I love this narrator. BUT - the crude language ruined it. I am disappointed that Ms. Quinn had to resort to a foul mouth to emphasize the rawness of a character. Contrary to popular demand - sex and language are not required to concoct a good story.
