Money, perhaps more than any other element in our lives, is the source of the most guilt and anxiety. How many of us, after all, have read statistics about how money issues are the root of most marital issues? However, money doesn't have to be so stressful.

As this book will show you, you can use affirmations to teach yourself how to think differently about money. Once you start, money troubles will seem like less of a self-fulfilling prophecy. It helps rewire your mindset and give you the tools to form more productive habits.

It can be easy to get caught in a loop of negative over-thinking. You worry about something, then compound that worry with unconscious mental biases. Something bad happened, so something bad is going to happen happen. Enough.

This book teaches you how to break those mental patterns. Instead of always thinking about the worst possible scenario, it's possible for you to imagine a world in which things work out. That's over-simplifying things a bit, but it can be just that simple.

Small quibble, though: There are a few odd mispronunciations here and there.

Good primer for folks new to DASH

This is a great introduction to the DASH diet. It's especially good for people who are new to it, as it communicates a lot of info in an easy-to-understand manner. This isn't one of those diet books that requires you to have a degree in medicine to figure it out. It's all laid out for you. As with any diet book on audio, though, I think it might be easier for some people to have a written form, or at least a way to take notes.

Like many people, I'm sure, I've heard all about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet. This was a good guide for beginner's--much more in-depth than the usual magazine articles and web posts I've read. My biggest criticism, though, would be that a diet book, especially one with recipes, is maybe better in written form. Your mileage may vary, of course.

A lot of the talk around minimalism revolves around clutter, but that isn't all there is to it. This book understands that and presents minimalism as a solution to other problems, like budget issues. As someone who tries to be thrifty, I certainly appreciate that.

I’m not a big fan of the traditional type of self-help books. When it comes to positive affirmations, Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Self-Reliance” essay is much more up my alley. Although it was written in the 19th century, it’s chock-full of ideas that are still relevant today. In the modern world, when the internet has made the world feel so much smaller, it’s easy to get caught up in the crowd and just go with the flow. That’s the kind of thing Emerson is railing against. And in the United States, in the wake of the campaign season and subsequent election, it’s important to remember that truth is internal. If you trust yourself, you can always rely on yourself. Self-reliance, eh? Listen to this audiobook if you need a reminder. It’s quick and easy and will give you a boost.
