Poorly written or AI? Both?
Revisado: 03-02-25
Content is good, and I am not Christian. Problems: 1) subject verb agreement in number (e.g., Woman” is said when “women” is correct.) 2) odd emphasis (having trouble thinking of an example. The problem with these “errors” is that the book is hard to listen to due to these things grating on my brain.

Historia
Mildred Pierce had gorgeous legs, a way with a skillet, and a bone-deep core of toughness and determination. She used those attributes to survive a divorce in 1940s America with two children and to claw her way out of poverty, becoming a successful businesswoman. But Mildred also had two weaknesses: a yen for shiftless men and an unreasoning devotion to her monstrous daughter.

Liked the story, performance grated my ears.
Revisado: 06-05-22
Story was enjoyable. I nearly quit listening due to the performance. Cadence was constantly driven, never let up, vocals were screechy. I’d pass on this.

Historia
Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best-selling novel of the 19th century and the second best-selling book of that century, following the Bible. It is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s. In 1855, three years after it was published, it was called "the most popular novel of our day." A thrilling and important piece of American literature!

Yes, the story is dated BUT it provides a glimpse of how whites began to struggle with the idea of slavery.

Historia
In Foundation the chronicler of London and of its river, the Thames, takes us from the primeval forests of England's prehistory to the death of the first Tudor king, Henry VII, in 1509. He guides us from the building of Stonehenge to the founding of the two great glories of medieval England: common law and the cathedrals. He shows us glimpses of the country's most distant past - a Neolithic stirrup found in a grave, a Roman fort, a Saxon tomb, a medieval manor house.

Chock full of info
Revisado: 08-21-16
The info in this book is great. It helped me to uhderstand the history of the island nation. The narrator's cadance and sing song voice was very difficult for me. I could only listen in short bursts.

Well deveoped characters.

While I do not usually like crime or mystery books, this was well done, well written, and I cared about the people. That is very important to me. This is a well-crafted book. Not simply wriiten to sell.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

Humor among the bleakness
Revisado: 03-02-16
Enjoyed the perspective of the maturing child. well worth the listen. The narrator and author's Irish accent added to the experience but was easy for this American's ears to follow.
