Good guys and unconforming girls.
I love how Cassandra writes men. They seem so authentic, and also adorable.
Shawn (unlucky in his bumbling attempts at love in book one) has to face his biases and beliefs - where did they come from, anyway? - because Jess makes him, and he comes to the right conclusions. Yay! Bonus, he gets the girl, and we root for him all the way because he's a good guy.
Also cars, and representation, and human, relatable problems and girls behaving outside of the usual girl boxes. Perfect narration!

Our heroine, in an uncomfortable place of questioning her identity and value, rides headlong through a time rift and lands at the feet of (an attractive) King Arthur. Impractical boots and all.
Although everything that mattered yesterday is swept away for a new set of concerns as she survives to navigate the intricacies and intrigues of Camelot, it turns out that who you are matters most of all, and through her admiration of Arthur, she finds her own path to honor through honesty.
And that comfortable footwear is as vital as a good horse.
A well-researched world with a brave and aspirational message of personal integrity at its heart, and a beautifully voiced cast of characters!

Absolutely flawless narration of this ambitious YA novel about a teenager grappling with teenage stuff - a depressed mom, a dismissive older sister with her own secrets, social awkwardness, oh yeah, and a newly discovered heritage that may mean she's a monster. The usual things.
A quest for answers ensues, and all the characters grapple with discoveries about themselves or those they care about, and what it means when people are not who you thought they were. It's funny and wry, and clips along but also touches big themes that matter.
Outstanding.
