Excellent Daniel Silva edition narrated by top performer Edoardo Ballerini. To some extent Gabriel takes a back seat to two new recruits but of course he is the mastermind behind intricate espionage. There seems to be more humor in this volume which was clever and laugh-out-loud funny sometimes. Regardless of my personal bias of Ballerini as my favorite narrator and Silva one of my top three authors, this book is an excellent, well-written, unpredictable tale of espionage.

I thought this was going to be a story I’ve heard before, about a family in the wilderness who lives off the grid and the author somehow escapes and becomes educated. This story is original; it is not what I thought it would be. It was so much more interesting, and much deeper. And it is surprisingly current! I am ranking this book as one of the most important reads of 2018. And Julia Whelan is an excellent narrator, as always.

While I enjoyed the suspense of the story, I found I really disliked the narration. The narrator’s voice dropped at the end of many sentences so I couldn’t hear the last bit. Also, the voices of some of the characters were annoying to me. I appreciate good narration and this one was disappointing.
