Historia
Peter Grant is facing fatherhood, and an uncertain future, with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand new London start up - the Serious Cybernetics Company. Drawn into the orbit of Old Street's famous "silicon roundabout", Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is.

Love, love, Love!!!
Revisado: 12-17-24
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, but this book in particular is wonderful. I love the mix of old and new world (mechanical and high tech +magic). So creative, yet apt in our day and age. You need to read them whole series to really appreciate this book, but if you have this one is a gem.

This book is amazing, sad, enlightening - everything. Really. I learned so much, grieved the loss of a few artists and gained so much as a human. Such an interesting and enlightening perspective that many face on enjoying art and interacting with other people on a day to day basis. Thank you.

An interesting take
Revisado: 08-28-24
I can’t say that I enjoyed reading the original, Huck Finn. So James was a refreshing new take on an old story. It is a story that needs to be told and read.

Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

This book was a joy to listen to. The story is fascinating and well told. Having seen an enigma machine in person, I loved hearing the description of what it was like to break codes and what the people were like doing this kind of work. So interesting. I enjoyed this book start to finish.

A long life, told in a lot of detail!
Revisado: 02-12-24
I love Patrick Stuart as an actor and all I have heard about him over the years, but this book really needed a strong editor to cut the details back. Too many, highly intricate stories, not to mention too much reciting parts of plays. He has lived an interesting life, but it was a slog to read through the retelling.

Historia
In the summer after graduating from college, Suleika Jaouad was preparing, as they say in commencement speeches, to enter “the real world”. She had fallen in love and moved to Paris to pursue her dream of becoming a war correspondent. The real world she found, however, would take her into a very different kind of conflict zone. It started with an itch - first on her feet, then up her legs, like a thousand invisible mosquito bites. Then a trip to the doctor and, a few weeks shy of her 23rd birthday, a diagnosis: leukemia, with a 35 percent chance of survival.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Very dark
Revisado: 10-27-23
I’m really not sure what to think of this book. I love Shakespeare, I love books, stories, tales in the Shakespeare theme. I love magic and mystery. This book was just misery from the start. Miranda goes from absolute (and complete) misery to borderline insanity. Was she insane? Was there magic at play? Did she make a deal with the devil? I really have no idea.
