Just what I needed
Revisado: 04-04-25
I have listened to many metaphysics teachers over the last few decades and each one has a slightly different way of getting the job done. It's interesting to note that this book was the first one I ever read, but I didn't get it at the time. I thought it was "Too simple".
Well, guess what? Too simple seems to be just what I need and wow is it working for me.
I am glad Hay House put out this edition. I enjoy the meditations as well as the lessons.

I love the two sets of subliminal meditations. They are incredibly uplifting and allow for a wonderful unique meditation style. The final meditation isn't my thing, but the first two sets ar fantastic.
I listen to these and Hay's You Can Heal Your Life book on alternating days. They really help.

Very enjoyable intro to Fractured Stars series
Revisado: 04-04-25
I enjoy Buroker's sci-fi, especially Star Kingdoms, so I figured I would give this a listen and see what it was like.
The story was good. It was well paced for a novella. The two main protagonists, the heroine and her android sidekick were well flushed out. While I like the main character, I adore her business partner/ android sidekick better. He steals the spotlight.
I liked this story so much that I bought the first full novel in the series. I'm having a difficult time making my way through it as it is more a romance than a sci-fi novel. It tales place in the same universe as Fallen Empire series, but to be honest, I haven't figured out if this series takes place before or after the original series.
But I did enjoy Junkyaed and highly recommend.

The ending was a shocker
Revisado: 03-30-25
I'm not usually a mystery reader as I hate waiting to the last minute to find out 'who did it'. However, I had read he author's Vera Wong novel and loved it, so when I saw this short listen, I snatched dit.
What a quick ;listen. I never would have imagined who the killer was. I'm still reeling. LOL
I enjoy the characters Sutanto writes and Eunice Wong is the perfect narrator for those nosy, quirky protagonists. Wong has a good range of voices, both male and female so it is easy to know who is speaking whether or not they have the name attached or not.
I highly suggest. Just be prepare for the surprise ending...

Tied up everything in a too perfect bow
Revisado: 03-15-25
I will admit - as much as I don't like romances and as much as I disliked having Willie in the series, I was hooked and listened through all of them. I liked the secondary characters like Cyclops and the professor and Daisy. The main characters were a bit too simplistic as far as I am concerned. Rather 1 dimensional characters. Both too good. Both making stupid decisions at every turn.
In this volume, the author decided to tie up everything in a pretty little bow. It felt too contrived and impossibly wrong when the heroine's father turned out to be self-sacrificing. And the author had an axe to grind in this book about families and how one binds together - blah blah blah. I personally would have loved to have Melville stick around as a crook who wanted to keep her in his life, if only to pass on his gift to a grandson.
Gabe was in this volume a lot less than the others, so he was almost a non-entity, coming out in the end to do the whole ring thing.
The one thing that could have been really good was the appearance of. a certain someone at the end of the book. However, it felt flat. He appeared, upset Nash, and we never got to hear his story really. Just a couple lines before everything else had to be 'wrapped up' in a bow.
I can't say I am disappointed, as I did not have high hopes, but this book is the epitome of why I do not like romances. For those who do? You might love it. For me? A waste of a few hours.
I do think the narrator did a good job with all the voices.

Not her best
Revisado: 02-12-25
I fell in love with Broker's Star Kingdom series. While I have found her fantasy not to my taste, this one drew my attention. It started off interestingly enough but then... Once again we have an artifact stolen by one kingdom from another kingdom's lands. And all the kingdoms want to claim it as their own. And then there were the main protagonists who don't want kill anyone. Eerg! Bad man in front of your who can kill you with a thought. Are you seriously going to shoot his shoulder? No! You'll shoot him in the head before he can think!
I finished the book, but am ambiguous about it. Part of me wants to continue to the next book to see what happens next... but I fear it will be more of the same story line. It may have dragons coming up, but I don't know if they can save the story from being the same plot arc as the series I enjoyed.
Unfortunately the narrator did not have the ability to create tons of different character voices. There were many conversations where I had no idea who was saying what. And she definitely cannot do male voices at all.

I hate this book & I love it
Revisado: 04-20-24
Until the last 2 hours of the book, I had 2 differing thoughts about it.
My 1st thought was "I want all the time I've wasted on this book back."
The second thought was " I bet this story would make sense if I was stoned."
And then the story got to Katrina and the struggles of Dorian and Zachary and suddenly I couldn't have stopped it if I'd tried. I just kept listening and listening until... the soy ended. I almost wailed at the ending. Until there was a small interlude that truly gave another ending and then... it began again.
So, I would say that I was annoyed with the story and then enjoyed it and then was annoyed at it and then hated its never-ending nature and then.. somewhere amongst the honey and the bees and the waves and the struggles of Zachary as he reached the end of his story... I fell head over heels in love with it.
All the time listening to the story, I thought - well I will force myself to finish it and then never listen to it again. But now? I think I will relisten and relisten again and again. And I think that each time, I will understand it a bit more and fall forever, further in love with it.
And, crazily enough, I want Kat's story now. Including her reunion with Zachary.
The narrators were fantastic. I loved the mixture as each narrator gave flavor to their stories and characters.

The same great story, but with British flavor
Revisado: 04-18-24
Let me state that I love this series with Jim Dale's narration. I've listened to it millions of times and know each voice intimately. But I've always wondered about the Stephen Fry version. For one thing, it's the original. For another, there has been a silly online war from those who prefer one version over the other.
So, let me give you the view from someone who thinks the war is a waste of time. If you loved the US Jim Dale version, you should be happy enough with the UK Stephen Fry version. Do I prefer many of the voices Dale gave to characters over Fry's? Yes. But that's mostly because I am used to them. There were also a couple voices I preferred in Fry's version.
I loved the British'isms in Fry's version. I am American, but grew up with English Literature, so hearing the English equivalents to US terms made me smile. After all, that is the way they are supposed to be in the first place.
So, the comparison war is silly and if you love HP, you will love it come to life in either Jim Dale or Stephen Fry's adaptation. If you prefer US terms, go with Jim Dale. If you love English terms, get the Stephen Fry version.
Or, if you're like me and just simply love HP and want to hear it in any way possible, get both versions so you can listen to it in any way you choose.

I do enjoy Buroker's sci-fi
Revisado: 04-08-24
I loved Broker's Star Kingdom series and am enjoying their Fallen Empire series so far. I do find that the author has a tendency to leave a few plot. holes dangling at the end of their long series, so I won't be too suprirsed if it happens here. But that won't stop me going onward as I enjoy the characters and their inadvertent issues.
One thing Buroker does well is give each character personalities and quirks that stick with them. You always know each character because they never try to be who they are not.
Elisa is a captain with a sense of humor. Micah is a pessimistic engineer. Leonidis is a war torn veteran who is trying to live again, though he has no idea how to do that. Umi is the new age/mind in a different solar system character. And Dominguez is the man you can't trust because he wants the enemy to win. Beck has his own sense of loyalty and Abalardis is a fairly new character who cannot be trusted... or can he?
I look forward to the new characters who are coming our way in the rest of the series, which yes, I will be getting and listening to. After all... there is much to happen before Elisa finds Jelena, isn't there?

Historia
In the wake of an environmental catastrophe, January, once a principal in London's Royal Ballet, has become a refugee in Tharsis, the terraformed colony on Mars. There, January’s life is dictated by his status as an Earthstronger—a person whose body is not adjusted to lower gravity and so poses a danger to those born on, or naturalized to, Mars. January’s job choices, housing, and even transportation are dictated by this second-class status, and now a xenophobic politician named Aubrey Gale is running on a platform that would make it all worse.

Stupid fricking cliffhangers
Revisado: 03-26-24
I despise cliffhangers. Hate them. I almost want to return the damned audiobook because of it. Which ticks me off because I liked the concept and the overall story.
Until Pulley pulled a really HORRIBLE cliffhanger.
If you've read any of Pulley's other works, you know their writing is laborious to read. Their stories have great concepts, but take forever to push through. However, even with that being the case, I really did enjoy the story. From January, forced to leave Earth and becoming an immigrant others despise, to the quirkiness of the humans on Mars, to the animals, buildings - the universe was incredibly built.
But the author just had to leave the book on a cliffhanger. Will Gale and January live? Or is the next page their deaths? I have no idea if we'll ever know. I am incredibly disappointed and doubt I will purchase another Pulley book. They may have rounded out the plot, but this? Unacceptable way to leave a story.
Completely unacceptable.
The narration, while easy to listen to, was not up to snuff. The narrator only had 2 voices. Gale's and January's. January's was used for most of the other characters. It made it difficult to tell who was talking in conversations.
So basically? Great concept. Great universe building. And then it stabbed itself in the back at the end.
