Historia
In this comedy, the quest for fame has no boundaries...but celebrity has its downside. We follow ex-actress BunnyLee Welles, who returns to Los Angeles for her best friend’s wedding and finds that she is instantly recognizable. From the customs officer to the baggage clerk to the Lyft driver, everyone knows her single-dimple smile. They mimic her. They take selfies with her. They hand her unsolicited film scripts. In the four years she has been traveling abroad, her sole commercial role for Dial-a-Denture has recently become an online meme. Like it or not, BunnyLee is now famous.

Really great fun!

Full disclosure: I was pre-disposed to like this book; the author is my brother-in-law and the reader is my sister.
I was not, however, prepared for exactly how much I would enjoy the book or the performance. It took me until way into the second chapter to stop hearing my sister and to fully appreciate the amazing variety of voices and accents I was hearing. I’m sure the drivers of other cars on the road were wondering wth was making me laugh out loud!
I’m craving oxtail soup with noodles, but only as prepared by Jimmy Chan!
Looking forward to David’s next book and Karen’s next performance!

Historia
It’s the middle of a long hot summer on the French Mediterranean shore, and the town is teeming with tourists. Sebag and Molino, two tired cops who are being slowly devoured by dull routine and family worries, deal with the day’s misdemeanors and petty complaints at the Perpignan police headquarters. But then a young Dutch woman is found murdered on a beach at Argelès, and another one disappears without a trace in the alleys of the city. Is it a serial killer obsessed with Dutch women? Maybe. The media senses fresh meat and moves in for the feeding frenzy.

Cats are many things, never boring!
Revisado: 02-12-23
I especially enjoyed this book for its setting … I am somewhat familiar with the Perpignan / Collioure region, and it was most pleasant to hear place names and street descriptions of places I have visited. I could almost smell the sea, taste the pastis, and hear the mixture of French and Catalan.
This is the second novel to which I have listened by Philippe Georges, and I will immediately start searching for another!
The narrator did a marvelous job with all the languages and accents.

Historia
With an updated foreword by Peter Mayle, Acquired Tastes, originally published in 1993, is a celebration of life's extravagances. It explores an aspect of human nature that, although lying dormant in hard economic times, is capable of erupting with the hint of good fortune and the drop of a credit card.

Simply amazing!
Revisado: 07-25-18
Having just spent a full day at Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, and being totally in awe of Gaudi’s masterpiece basilica, this book is one of those “can’t put it down & don’t want it to end” volumes that are truly few and far between!
Dan Brown’s research into Gaudi’s architecture and symbolism is amazing. Chapter 65 is worthy of being a guidebook! He treats the basilica with all of the reverence it deserves, and still is able to fictionalize the surroundings for his story. Having now “read” the book I want to go back and walk through the basilica again! I am not a religious person, but the feelings of awe and serenity I felt sitting in the pews and in the chapel behind the altar all came back to me during the reading.
Hopefully without giving anything away, I’d go on to say that the “answer” to the “where” questions were most thought-provoking.
I cannot recommend the book more highly!

Narrator wanted!
Revisado: 08-21-16
What did you like best about Balance of Power: A Novel? What did you like least?
I'm about a third of the way through the book and I'm enjoying the story line, especially trying to figure out which characters are crucial and which are window-dressing.
I'm sorely tempted to put the book down because of the narrator. His accent is "old school pompous" and I find it irritating as Hell!
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The story line is plausible. Having been in the Navy as a member of the CAG 17 in the late 60's and early 70's I've noted some minor technical flaws, but they aren't relevant to the progress of the story.
What didn’t you like about Adams Morgan’s performance?
I'm sorely tempted to put the book down because of the narrator. His accent is "old school pompous" and I find it irritating as Hell!
Did Balance of Power: A Novel inspire you to do anything?
not really, unless considering putting the book down and returning it for a refund inspirational.
Any additional comments?
I will avoid this narrator in the future.

Historia
Nothing Like It in the World is the story of the men who built the transcontinental railroad. In Ambrose's hands, this enterprise comes to life. The U.S. government pitted two companies - the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific railroads - against each other in a race for funding, encouraging speed over caution. As its peak the work force approached the size of Civil War armies, with as many as 15,000 workers on each line. The surveyors, the men who picked the route, lived off buffalo, deer, and antelope.

Took as long to listen as to live!
Revisado: 05-11-14
Would you try another book from Stephen E. Ambrose and/or Jeffrey DeMunn?
I gave a valiant effort, and I finished the book ... it felt as if it took as long to listen to this book as it did for these men to build the railroad.
To say that the writing was repetitive and redundant is an understatement. Yes, it's history, written by a historian, but it wasn't necessary to make it as boring as a classroom! I believe there is a close proximity to the number of spikes in the railroad and the number of words in the book ... the spikes were necessary.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Nothing Like It in the World?
the end
What three words best describe Jeffrey DeMunn’s performance?
He did well, considering with what he was working.
