Long and enthralling

I loved the epic nature of this book. The narrators force you to examine your truth as you read theirs. I laughed at, judged, reexamined and reflected on the characters in the book and my life as non-American, non-African black person. You won't want to stop listening!

Interesting to say the least
Revisado: 07-30-18
The storyline was definitely interesting and will keep you listening. The performance isn't that bad either. I didn't like the characterization of women in general but a good story overall.

Big Disappointment
Revisado: 04-30-17
The story was awful and did not live up to the hype of the book release. The only reason I finished the book is that I kept thinking there was a plot twist coming to redeem the inane overly detailed writing. I was dreadfully wrong. The author does a good job of pulling in the reader with lush details but the plot simply falls flat. Save your time and money. The narrator wasn't bad.

Historia
Tawawa House in many respects is like any other American resort before the Civil War. Situated in Ohio, this idyllic retreat is particularly nice in the summer when the Southern humidity is too much to bear. The main building, with its luxurious finishes, is loftier than the white cottages that flank it, but the smaller structures are better positioned to catch any breeze that may come off the pond. And they provide more privacy, which best suits the needs of the Southern white men who vacation there every summer.

Not so great
Revisado: 04-11-17
While I was incentivized to keep reading, the story lost it's luster with each successive chapter. Sometimes it's ok to have a little happiness or a good ending for a character without betraying reality.

Historia
Delores Phillips' heart-rending debut novel is set in 1950s Georgia where most of Rozelle Quinn's 10 children can pass as white. Her brightest child, Tangy Mae, however, has the darkest skin of them all, and she longs to continue her education. But Rozelle thinks it's time for 13-year-old Tangy Mae to follow in her own footsteps and earn money "cleaning for whites" and bedding men at the "Farmhouse."

Too much sadness to bear... almost pointless.

I struggled to finish this story of sadness and hurt. It became a contest to see how much misery one can endure before one breaks. I feel broken.
