Historia
The beautiful planet Pern seemed a paradise to its new colonists - until unimaginable terror turned it into hell. Suddenly deadly spores were falling like silver threads from the sky, devouring everything - and everyone - in their path. It began to look as if the colony, cut off from Earth and lacking the resources to combat the menace, was doomed.

The story of my childhood
Revisado: 08-05-23
I first read this story when I was in middle school. It’s been my favorite of all the dragon stories since then. I remember getting a lump in my throat when Sean presents the Dragon Riders of Pern to the assembly at the end. This narrator does the story justice, and I still get a lump after all these years.

Cliches
Revisado: 06-08-22
The author’s humor really shows in the characters’ expressions of movie cliches. Of course the only thing about violence that many people know comes from movies and pop culture. So if our world turns upside down, and suddenly we get superpowers (stop calling it that!) then our natural reaction will be what we’ve been conditioned for.

Historia
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

Waiting for next book in series
Revisado: 05-18-22
I got this book thinking from the description that my kids would like it- and they would except for all the swear words. However, the swearing is appropriately placed because anyone stuck in the predicaments this character, Jake, falls into would swear too. The narrator’s enthusiasm for those swear words is hilarious and I couldn’t put this book down. I finished it in two days and I wouldn’t have taken that long except for sleep.
As far as the story goes, I only gave it 4 stars, I thought the author took an inventive path towards the d&d/magic aspect of this story. But it started to lag halfway through. And I was put off by the Golden Compass-ish ending.
Despite these very small discrepancies, I loved this book and I hope this author continues writing. I saw that he doesn’t write for a living, he’s a lawyer, but he definitely has a calling as a writer.

Narrator
Revisado: 02-11-22
I appreciate the fact that this narrator is the same one for all the books. I hate it when I get used to one narrator and then they change in the middle of the series. Davina Porter is very consistent and diverse in her voices and Easy to listen to. She is a very talented narrator.

Weird music
Revisado: 03-31-21
During vampire encounters, they put music in the background and sometimes it clangs. This noise is very distracting and at first I thought it was coming from another app. I had to close everything out to determine that it was coming from my book. The download would be better without the sound; they are lucky the story is so good.

Weird stop spots
Revisado: 05-22-20
I noticed that the recording has placed that it just stops at the end of chapters. Most of the time it’s fine and doesn’t hurt the story. However, at the end of chapter 87 the narrator gets cut off and I was left hanging. I’m think something interesting was missed!
The narrator himself is excellent. His range of voices for all the different characters is amazing.
Loved the plot! The ups and downs kept me going and I had a tough time putting the book down.

Historia
Maya loves to cook with her grandmother - her Halmunee - to connect with the rich family history associated with each dish, a history Maya's mom would prefer stayed in the past. While cooking with Halmunee, something remarkable happens - the food creates such a strong memory that Maya and Halmunee are transported back in time through the memory itself. Halmunee explains that the women in her family have the gift of time travel through food and Maya can do it too, if she practices.

I need more stars for this than 5
Revisado: 01-13-20
I absolutely love the author, Garth Nix. He's amazing! If you haven't tried him before, follow this whole series. The books are well written and the flow and character formation are so well done. You should also try Shade's Children. Its a stand alone, and not related except by author.
When I started to listen to this audible, I was caught off guard that Tim Curry was the narrator. I hadn't paid attention to the name - I was just excited about a book I've read so many times. I heard Tim Curry though and wasn't sure if I'd like him as the narrator. Oh ye of little faith! Tim Curry is actually one of my favorite bad guys of all time, but he is perfect for Sabriel. Also, he's a consistent narrator, which is very important when doing a series. I've often come across narrators who change characters' accents, or the way they say certain words. Tim Curry is very good at his job.
Follow Sabriel through her growth as an Abhorsen and fall in love with the Old Kingdom!

Emotional moment
Revisado: 12-24-18
If you have seen my reviews for the past two books, then you’ll be relieved to know that narrator has changed Jaenelle’s accent again; thankfully for the better! I was very excited!
Now that the voice thing is done, the story was really made for me with the emotional moment with Collie. The author did great with this part of the story.

Still important to story line
Revisado: 12-22-18
While the narrator still makes me mad with his new accent for Jaenelle, you still need this story to get the details of the Diablo family. It’s a small stepping stone in the family’s story but still reveals a lot about them.
