Historia
The quest for social justice is a powerful crusade of our time, with an appeal to many different people, for many different reasons. But those who use the same words do not always present the same meanings. Clarifying those meanings is the first step toward finding out what we agree on and disagree on. From there, it is largely a question of what the facts are. Social Justice Fallacies reveals how many things that are thought to be true simply cannot stand up to documented facts, which are often the opposite of what is widely believed.

Historia
In the 1960s, Mao launched China’s Cultural Revolution. Cities grew overcrowded. Technocrats demanded progress from above. Anyone opposed was sent to be “re-educated.” China’s revolution was bloody, fast, and a failure, but what if America started a revolution at the same time, based on the same bad ideas, and it’s just been slower, calmer, and more effective?

The Insidious Nature of DEI and CRT
Revisado: 04-21-25
My wife and I had no idea what our children would face at elite institutions. We raised our kids to be critical thinkers, but the education that our two Ivy League (Harvard and Columbia) children received was entirely one-sided and completely steeped in DEI/CRT theology. They will not even listen to alternative views. Our two kids that went to the Naval Academy had a much more balanced education because Congress pays attention to its curriculum and military officer professors are overall more conservative than their civilian counterparts. They still heard the nonsense, but mostly made fun of it.
Our higher education system must change as it is no longer representative of our great nation. The new Administration is trying but there is tremendous pushback. Congress is probably too weak to make changes. It will likely be fought in the courts for years to come. Not sure how it will all end sadly. Probably will only go well if America re-churches.

Historia
Proud and talented, history now remembers this conflicted man solely through the lens of his last desperate act of treason. Yet the fall of Benedict Arnold remains one of the Revolutionary period's great puzzles. Why did a brilliant military commander, who repeatedly risked his life fighting the British, who was grievously injured in the line of duty, and fell into debt personally funding his own troops, ultimately became a traitor to the patriot cause?

New View of Arnold
Revisado: 04-04-25
Although still a traitor, my view of Benedict Arnold has softened slightly based on this thoroughly researched book. It is also excellent storytelling! The Continental Congress deserves much blame based on their truly unfair treatment of the Hero of Saratoga. All praise to Joyce Lee Malcolm for writing this important work!

Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

I loved this book, although I found it bothersome because of the parallels to our situation today. Larson writes in a compelling way with his histories reading more like historical fiction—due to his extensive research. Great job on this Erik!

Compelling book on Vietnam
Revisado: 06-22-24
I loved this book! One of the best books about Vietnam that I’ve ever read. We came out of that difficult time in our history stronger; gives me hope about our current struggles. So glad we seem to be giving our Vietnam veterans the honor they deserve. My US Marine daughter recommended it to me and I am glad she did! So well written and narrated!

Historia
Maj. Gen. Gregg Martin cut a striking figure in the Army: athletic, quick witted, devout, and studious, he was a natural leader. Thanks to his engineering and leadership knowhow, Martin was chosen to lead the thousands of combat engineers who paved the way for 100,000 Army troops to battle their way to Baghdad in 2003. Only years later would he learn how the pressure of organizing dozens of simultaneous life-or-death missions each day altered the biochemistry of his brain. Bipolar General offers a candid account of Martin's personal journey with undiagnosed mental illness.

Great book about mental health
Revisado: 03-19-24
General Martin’s book is groundbreaking. To have a prominent Army general write such an honest and transparent book about his struggle with bi-polar disorder is profound and will shine a light on mental illness in a positive way. Many will read this book and recognize that either they or people they know may be suffering without a diagnosis. Hopefully, at a minimum, the US military system will take note and make improvements to mental health care for service members and their families. The threat of losing your security clearance is a definite deterrent in the military system for someone to seek mental health care they might need, as General Martin points out. The military health care and security systems must work better together to take care of our service members.
Anyone with mental health concerns for themselves or family members or friends should read this book. It might just change their life or the life of someone they love—perhaps even save a life.

Historia
When Mike Pence was a young politician, reporters used to ask him: “where do you see yourself in five, ten years?” Without fail, the former Vice President would reply, “home for dinner.” This answer was an honest assessment of his priorities. Throughout his career, Pence has been adamant about putting his family first. As he often told his staff, he’d rather lose an election than lose his family. Go Home for Dinner is an in-depth, practical guide to balancing the demands of life with the long-term satisfaction that only a commitment to your family can bring.

What does it look like to live with joy in a society that does not like what Christians believe, say, or do? It's tempting to grow angry, keep our heads down, retreat or just give up altogether. But this isn't the first time that God's people have had to learn how to live in a pagan world that opposes God's rule.
