Historia
In this delightful, acclaimed bestseller, one of the world’s leading cognitive scientists tackles the workings of the human mind. What makes us rational—and why are we so often irrational? How do we see in three dimensions? What makes us happy, afraid, angry, disgusted, or sexually aroused? Why do we fall in love? And how do we grapple with the imponderables of morality, religion, and consciousness?

Gained some new perspective.
Revisado: 02-10-24
Excellent. I loved how Steven explained many of the mind’s mysteries and inspired us to think about how we think.
Science is progressing and some of the ideas may be obsolete. However, I believe knowing the right questions is equally important. Something the book does very well.

Historia
Ramachandra Guha takes us from Gandhi's birth in 1869 through his upbringing in Gujarat, his two years as a student in London, and his two decades as a lawyer and community organizer in South Africa. Guha has uncovered myriad previously untapped documents, including private papers of Gandhi's contemporaries. Using this wealth of material in an exuberant, brilliantly nuanced and detailed narrative, Guha describes the social, political, and personal worlds inside of which Gandhi began the journey that would earn him the honorific Mahatma: "Great Soul".

There are many things that Gandhi didn't mention in his autobiography. Ramchandra Guha covered many such events.

Historia
How can we make intelligent decisions about our increasingly technology-driven lives if we don’t understand the difference between the myths of pseudoscience and the testable hypotheses of science? Pulitzer Prize-winning author and distinguished astronomer Carl Sagan argues that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions.

Criticism without hate

I learned a lot from the book. Most importantly, expressing criticism without hate.
Carl Sagan nailed it.

Following Marx’s death in 1883, Engels was able to step into the breach and, drawing on Marx’s extensive notes and writings, complete volume 2 of Capital, leading to its publication in 1885. Here, Marx turns his attention to the money owner, the money lender, the wholesale merchant, the trader and the entrepreneur or 'functioning capitalist.'

Historia
It can be said of very few books that the world was changed as a result of its publication - but this is certainly the case of Capital: A Critique of Political Economy by Karl Marx (1818-1883). Volume 1 appeared (in German) in 1867, and the two subsequent volumes appeared at later dates after the author's death - completed from extensive notes left by Marx himself.

Everything I knew about Marx was wrong.
Revisado: 11-07-19
I love books that challenge me. This is one of them.
I grew up learning negative things about Marx. After reading this, I must say, this guy was way ahead of his time. His philosophy should be taught in schools.
Today, we have good labor laws are because of people like Marx. He rightly exposed the ugly side of the capitalism.
Please read and understand that human is to n fact above capital.

Historia
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1974 and the culmination of a life's work, The Denial of Death is Ernest Becker's brilliant and impassioned answer to the "why" of human existence. In bold contrast to the predominant Freudian school of thought, Becker tackles the problem of the vital lie: man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality. In doing so, he sheds new light on the nature of humanity and issues a call to life and its living that still resonates more than 30 years after its writing.

Revisado: 04-03-19
Very complicated language. May be because it meant for psychology students.
Also, the author thinks the Christian way of life is better while calling it lie and mortality project. Why ? Did I misunderstood? It would be nice if someone can explain.
